Vague, this, but someone posted a link to a table showing, among other things, that our most efficient/accurate passers were Mavies, Reo-Coker and Vela; tucked just behind them was Mears, with Riley bob at the bottom. I also recall earlyish in the season when Riley started a league game I posted the Stats Zone screens (green pitches, squiggly lines) and Riley had given the ball away with half of his passes. He's a kid, he should be able to learn, but while we were all pleased to see an Acad-lad come through I suspect that if say Steinsson had played as badly he'd have been called not fit for hanging.

It's statistically a small sample, fair enough. Which league games did they play in last season? I'll see if I can find time to dig up comparatives, for what it's worth. Although it strikes me that one of the main things Mears is frequently judged on is being signed from Coyle's old club...

Mears has good experience in the Championship, and was the reason behind much self flagellation on the part of Burnley fans when he left with Eagles, being considered one of their better players. Lets not kid ourselves, we have a squad that is more than equipped to gain promotion. Time will tell.

Has he lost these inches this year then ?

He needs to work on this. A bit of effort in training & those inches will simply pile on.

This is why Barber was let go. Just not a "can do" type on matters like this.

Training starts today.

Anyone injured yet?

The game where Rileys stats were 'poor' was a great example of numbers proving nowt

Most of his 'bad' passes were 40 yard, sweetly struck diagonals to the back post

As for Mears being judged by where he came from, well we aint got much else to go on

He was 'raring to go' according to Coyle in mid March

Pity he wasn't raring to fcuk off

LK, who were these other 'better players'

Clarke Carlisle and Tommy Tugboat, the Dutch flapper?

This squad should be good enough to finish top 6

We've got Coyle though, so unless we make such a bad start we can get shut in October (12 months too late) we're nacked

Its a squad that got promoted. We also have Pratley from a promotion squad the year before. Ricketts has been promoted from this league. Players like Sordell were considered "too good " for it. Andrews scored a hat-load for Ipswich last year. Its a pity that Wheats is injured, for example, as him and Mills would have brought the exact qualities to the party we need.

Either way, barring a Jumbo-jet crash on Euxton or another Muamba incident, there are no excuses this time round. Besides, he's got promotion once before, if he does it again, I don't care past that. Focus is whats required now.

The Oracle confirms nothing in the Faye rumours anyway. I think him and Dioufy are training with the squad but that's about it

Bring him home Owen! Someone needs to replace Robbie Blake on the bench

So many fond memories of the guy (despite him doing the grand sum of feck all in the last 4 year)

Surprised nobody has posted this.

Not selling anyone, according to Owen. Well not unless the bids are mahooosive by the sound of it and that seems unlikely for any of our players.

Isn't that the line they give just before a bid for one of our players is announced?

This is from March - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17411617" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

His clearance would have come in on the 1st of July I'm assuming. Plus his twitter bio says he plays for us and his last tweet was about him returning to training.

I'm assuming he's signed for us.

We were in the Prem when this thread started, since when our signings have all helped us reach the heady heights of the Championship.

Please define your criteria for "success".

Oh and my twitter account could say I play for us if I wanted it to.
