You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: Signings
McKee says some interesting things in that piece, but this made me chuckle:
No, being on the bench against Rangers.
Set your sights low and you won't be disappointed.
What was the ultimate? Scoring for Celtic in the Champions League final? Scoring for Celtic? Appearing for Celtic? Appearing at Parkhead?I supported Celtic as a boy so that was the ultimate for me, especially at 18.

Re: Signings
I wonder DSB if its just poorly written as I assumed it referred to him making his debut against Celtic at 18 rather than being on the bench against Rangers.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:McKee says some interesting things in that piece, but this made me chuckle:What was the ultimate? I thought it went on to say he was on the pitch for the last 15 to 20 minutes?

St Mirren (Big Time) > Burnley (Small Time)Even though McKee failed to make the first team grade at Burnley, his appetite was whetted at the start of last season when he was loaned out to St Mirren to get a brief taste of the big time

Re: Signings
Heh! Still, likesay, McKee says some reasonably things in there. Also interesting to note he's described as a "playmaker" who can "play across midfield", which gets the 4-2-3-1 idea ticking...
Re: Signings
McKee's just probably been signed for squad depth. Can't see him lighting up our Championship campaign but hopefully be useful when we're carrying a few injuries.

Not even that: he's a teenager, in with the ressies.Mar wrote:McKee's just probably been signed for squad depth. Can't see him lighting up our Championship campaign but hopefully be useful when we're carrying a few injuries.
I'm not thinking he'll play much of a part this season, just wondering if signing that type of player might be a welcome sign of tactical flexibility in the future. Might not be: maybe Coyle just sees him as a winger, or thinks he can play centrally in the holy 4-4-2...“I think at first it’s a case of getting my foot in the door,” he said. “I’ll be going with John Henry and the reserve boys so then it’s just up to me, like any of the younger boys."

If McKee ever plays for us, I won't be going again.
Not that I will be anyway. Other than to boo him.

Re: Signings
Isn't he a bit of a set-piece but nowt else kind of player? In which case you might be able to carry him in a 4-5-1 and ask him just to get tight on a creative oppo.
(in the future, obviously)

The way I saw it was he was a teenager at Burnley and he's had experience and seeing as Coyle's worked with him before he thought he would give him another try. Can't see why he'd end up going back into the youth setup. He must've seen enough to think someday he might break through otherwise whats the point.

Re: Signings
Indeed. But the way I see it, he's still a teenager and he's said he'll be starting in the reserves. Maybe he'll break through some day. I doubt that day is expected to be this season, although I wouldn't object if he's good enough.Mar wrote:The way I saw it was he was a teenager at Burnley and he's had experience and seeing as Coyle's worked with him before he thought he would give him another try.
