Phillistine.Worthy4England wrote:Scandalous. Godfather is teminally boring. Great if you can be bothered waiting 15 seconds between individual words in a sentence and have a deep interest in listening to people pronounce New York, Noo Yoick. It then repeats ad infinitum for another couple of films. It's like watching Emmerdale with gangsters.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Oh man watch the Godfather trilogy ASAP...and be glad you did.
I can't attest to the other two as i've never seen Slumdog or Avatar.
I also think im the only person in the world who has never seen a Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings film.
Harry Potter and LoTR excellent!
(Actually not trying to start that argument off again as we've done it lots of times)
However I wanted to comment abour Avatar.
It's not much of a film really, unless you watch it in 3D. It was really designed for 3D and to show off the advancements in 3D technology since folk started watching with cardboard specs with one green and one red eye. The story is pretty shite TBH, but the effects in 3D are excellent.
Get out...just get out!

Never seen a solitary second of Harry Potter. Got tricked into watching Lord of the Rings. It's a pile of repetitive crap. Big fight - on to the next place. Big scrap - on to the next place - repeat ad nauseum.ohjimmyjimmy wrote: I also think im the only person in the world who has never seen a Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings film.
Oh, and I've never seen any of The Godfather ones either.

How does someone get tricked into watching LOTR? Isn't it about 5 hours long? Long enough to realise at some point that you may not in fact be watching 'Police Academy 6' as you were promised

Someone else took it upon them self to order (and pay for) the tickets in advance.
Anyhoo - I've ran out of LF credits for the month, so I reckon that the Green Wing box set's coming out when I get home.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I agree there has to be some quiet, some geeky, maybe a tad weedy in there. McGuire just came across as way too convincing in all of them, too quiet, not really geeky enough and too weedy. I can stretch to the possibility of someone morphing into Spiderman, easier than I can convince myself that it's McGuire as Peter Parker.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Works for me.....the quite, geeky, weedy kid.Worthy4England wrote:I never quite "got" McGuire as Spiderman. I don't recall from the comics or the cartoon series that he was THAT weedy. Probably a bit more geeky. And as for the "love interest" parts - I mean come on. it's supposed to be Spiderman.
Well made films though, I don't mind 'em, just think they cast the wrong person as Peter Parker.
Mind you, I think the same about the Bourne series. He's played by a 32 year old, but reading the books, he must be way over 40. Although confusion abounds in this regard, he's supposed to have a birthdate of circa 1969/70 according to the films, but was part of Medusa in Vietnam in the books.

Does the age really matter, as tbf the films bear no relation to the books. It really is like comparing chalk and cheese. Massively disappointing, as is quite often the case when transferring from the page to the screen.Worthy4England wrote:I agree there has to be some quiet, some geeky, maybe a tad weedy in there. No, but why bother calling them Jason Bourne when they're not? Marketing gimmickry of the highest order.Burnden Paddock wrote: Does the age really matter, as tbf the films bear no relation to the books. It really is like comparing chalk and cheese. Just call 'em something else.
Same thing with the new Bond stuff. Reasonable films generally, but not James Bond.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Seem to remember I got chopped up for firewood a while ago for saying the same thing. I bought both the latest ones and, as films, they're pretty good. Great stunt work and Daniel Craig does the seret agent stuff well enough. As you say, just not James Bond. They could have created a whole new modern hero with another name. Probably run into all sorts of copyright issues if they used the original plots though.Worthy4England wrote: No, but why bother calling them Jason Bourne when they're not?
