A bit like the Cheers Bar ???
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Not now but if the club stand in his way of moving back to the Prem he will be. There are even people on this forum who don't expect him to be in the starting XI this season. He'll see who we've signed, knows what Coyle's like and will want to take the first decent out he's offered.
That's a fair amount of unsubstansiated assumption buddy. What are you backing it up with?
That he's a Premier League footballer and will want to get back there ASAP.
So...you're backing it up with feck all except typical BWFC pessimism?

Do you think Mark Davies will be starting in the midfield every week then? We've got Holden due to return, Pratley, Andrews, Eagles, Moreno looks like he could be joining and we're trialing Cisse. There are a lot of fans on here who don't think he will be starting, even BWFCi in this very thread has said that he thinks Mavies has a lot to prove. The last thing he'll want to do is pass up a move to the Prem and then not even get into a Championship side.

I'm inbetween the two views here. He actually made more starts last season than I thought I recalled. I don't think he's a bad player and sometimes when he's driving forwards, it's good to watch - but for me, generally too infrequently - and I don't have him in the tough tackling win the ball back category - so a bit like Eagles without goals.

If I think (and worry) about a midfield with Petrov, Eagles and Mavies in it, I see at least one "too much of a luxury" player that adds too little defensively, which is part of the reason we were overrun a fair amount last season. In a five might not be too bad (with an NRC/Moo/Holden type combo) - in a four, it's asking for it.

Of the three - Mavies would probably be the one I'm most likely to flog.

All well and good, except that Mavies HASN'T ASKED FOR A MOVE. It's been documented by the chairman that he's happy to stay and play for BWFC. I'm sure he's aware of the competition for places around him, and the fact that he wants to stay and fight for it is testament to his determination and faith in his own ability.

I don't know if Mavies will be starting every week. Neither do you. Neither does anybody on this board, even the people who you (no offence, BWFC-i) use as a yardstick of some sort of undeniable ITK-ism. I reckon there'll be some sort of rotation system in place (there are a lot of games in the NPC), and I'd certainly have him ahead of Pratley, and Eagles, because those are the two that feasibly play in his best position as an attacking midfielder. The others you mention are more holding midfielders. Of course, in a 442, it's slightly different, but if we've got him, which we will, I daresay he'll be starting a reasonable number of games, and probably coming off the bench in others.

I think you misunderstand what he was saying truewhite. He wasn't trying to imply that I am ITK merely using me as an example of Bolton fans who aren't completely sold on Mark Davies as a player....there are quite a few who think he's a bit of a luxury. Just my post was the latest saying that....

If Davies starts every week that would mean Holden is injured and I don't think Bolton will be in the automatic promotion slots.Without Holden then Davies/Andrews is probably the best of the rest and i don't think that's a promotion winning central midfield, the main weakness being Davies. It's going back to the days of being as powderpuff as the latter days of Todd when we had Claus Jensen not being strong enough in the centre of the park and sharing 8 goal thrillers/embarrassments with Crewe.
Davies is a decent Championship player but I would sell in an instant if we are offered a silly fee like £4 million.

There were many games last year that our only spark of creativity came from Davies, not to mention the 3 or 4 penalties he won us by his jinking runs into the box. Unless it's stupid money then we need to hang onto him because he'll be head and shoulders above most of the Championship.

He still needs to reach his potential,I think we haven't seen 50% of his best. Why? Probably because Coyle doesn't know how to give him proper role on the pitch. Ok,we have Stu,but his last game was...when? Can't even remember. And if he can't play,we'll be forced to watch Andrews or Pratley.......nooo thanks.

btw,12-15 millions? :D we'd be lucky to have 4...5 top.

If we let our best play go for 5million we'd definitely be screwed, we're in a market where Andy Carroll goes for 35million, players like Jordan Henderson went for 15million and Mark Davies is streaks ahead in terms of quality then Jordan Henderson

If we let our best player go for 5 mill we would be screwed. But we're talking about Mavies.

That's ok,but we are know Championship team, you can't expect 10 million for a second division player. Henderson is over-estimated,of course, but he went from one PL team to another. And I can imagine some Championship midfielders better than Mavies. Actually,Holden is better than Mavies in my eyes.

Probably by a number of country miles (assuming he was to get back to how he was before the injury)

If we're playing 4-4-2 next year i'd get shut if we had a decent offer.

A midfield of Eagles, Davies and Petrov is going to get over-run time and time again. Funnily enough, that's what happened last year. Not that Coyle ever noticed.

Swansea want £15m for Joe Allen. If that goes through, there's no way we should sell for less than £10m. A hugely inflated market at the moment. I would never consider Allen to be worth more than £5m or so.

5/6 million for mavies would be good business.Yes he can run with the ball as he did a couple of timeslast season but he cant cross(so cant play wide) and cant tackle. The only place he fits is playing in the hole where his talent for disappearing or mistiming a tackle will be less damaging.Eagles potentially carries more threat in that position though. I fear mavies is the sort of player who may well flatter to deceive. He has a poor engine and in all honesty is a bit of a luxury.Doesnt fit in a 442 but could be a useful bit part player for someone else.
