That is the sort of logic that has just made me put £200 on us to win the leagueohjimmyjimmy wrote:Owen said we could have scored 6 or 7 in both games, so when you factor in the friendly factor that means we will definitely score 6 or 7 at will in games where we're actually trying, erego thats why he's not too worried about it.

Call me controversial, but why Owen (Coyle that is) ever got rid of our only true goal threat is beyond me...

He was "Andrew" back then. And, as anyone can tell you, Andrew is a ridiculous name. So stupid as to be untrue. You can just imagine the taunts from his cruel classmates: "Andrew, ha, ha, you Andrew bastard".
And how he wept himself to sleep at night, cursing his parents and wishing they'd called him something sensible, like Ferenc, Dweezel, Basingstoke Roundabout or Fifi-Trixabelle.
So, as soon as he is old enough, he changes it. To "Chubby". To add sufficient gravitas. I would say "weight", but cynics may think I was going for a cheap pun.
And he's never looked back (and he's - Andy's...geddit??!1!!)
Incidentally, Iles thinks we won't be signing Owen. But what does he know? Nothing. Nothing at all. Michael Vaughan knows, though.

Not the spirit tzatziki, not the spirit.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Not sure about this Cisse thing. Defensive midfielder... isn't that like Muamba was/is. If we're playing Andrews instead of NRC + a more attacking partner in a 442 then he'll be used off the bench.
When OC talks about "better than we have" does he mean better than the kids or better than Andrews? Or to play alongside Andrews so better than Pratters/Mavies/Stu/(whoever's left and fit)? Or is "better than we have" just something they say to the journos?

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

I hope it means he's woken up and smelt the coffee re the need for defensive midfielders personally.
Mavies/pratley/eagles cant play as a central mid...repeat ad finitum.
The unknown for me being Vela who could well be good enough to make the numbers up in there this season.

His wages would probably be too big, I think. The MLS pay pretty well and he was on a good amount at Everton, so if it's a straight choice between a similar wage in the MLS or well over 50% less in the Championship, he was always going to take the money. I can't blame him either. I've always really liked Tim Cahill and I think he's been a model professional during his Everton career, so I can't begrudge him making plenty more money before he retires.
He would have been great though, I'm sure.

Well if Mark Davies is worth the reported 12-15m on here, Tim Cahill should have gone for about 25.thebish wrote:I see Everton have just sold Tim Cahill off to the MLS for £1million... cudda done a job for us in the championship, surely?
I suspect the transfer fee was a "thanks Tim".

Eh?! There's an annual salary cap in the MLS of $2,810,000 per team (according to Wikipedia). He was earning more than that alone at Everton. I seem to remember Ream was on about $40,000 at Red Bulls – $40,000 per year! So he's obviously not gone there for the salary.

I thought each club was allowed a couple of established 'stars' who could bust those limits.
Hence Mr Beckham etc.

Reminiscent of Big Sam's signings.
What's the betting they both sign by the end of the week?

Cisse would be a good option for nowt. Strong, disciplined (apparently) and a decent athlete.
Could provide good competition for Andrews.
I'd like to see start the season with a middle 3 of Andrews/ Cisse to do the defensive graft. Vela to do the ball work and keep it ticking over and M. Davies to join in with the attack.
Chungy on the right, then Petrov / Eagles on the left.
Can't see it working out that way though.

If that means he's on a free I would take him back, any time he played he gave 100% and looked like doing something but unfortunately Owen Coyle didn't seem to think he was good enough

Would be ok on a sensible wage but not the type of striker / player we need the most.
