Glad it's not just me that prefers red with, well, absolutely everything - but with white, meaty fish especially.thebish wrote:ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Red wine with white fish & parsley sauce?thebish wrote:this evening..
fresh locally-caught plaice fillets (4 huge ones for £2.50!) - simply pan-fried with some home-made parsley sauce and baby salad potatos, peas - washed down with glass of red wine..
I could get used to living by the sea!!
yum!
Only in Devon

I drink white, when I have run out of red.

Some chip shops do gravy. We don't tell the tourists, though.

Just got back from a family meal at Room at King Street in Manchester.
http://www.roomrestaurants.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Straight opposite Jamies Italian.
Decent meal but more than a shade overpriced. Prawn & crab cocktail to start, steak and ale pie then chocolate fudge cake to finish with. The odd thing was that none of that was quite how you might expect it to be.

That's what I like about Room. The fact it's a bit different. Everything has a 'twist'
But sometimes. Classics should be left alone. The bartenders in room though, can knock your fckin socks off with the booze they concoct!!

^ A bit too noisy for me with noise spilling from the bar area but still a good atmosphere in the place. Re the 'twist' on the food, one of our party was ordering his sweet and asked in all seriousness "Is there actually any apple in the apple pie?", which said it all I thought.

Tonight I tried a new Jura malt - because it was on offer at Sainsbury's at £13 something a half bottle. Jura 'Superstition' (I sense a marketing ploy here)... Nice, slightly smoky, lingering finish... I liked and would buy again - but not in front of half a dozen others...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

LOL. In Portugal, eating fish. In Bolton University (hard at work - but wasting my time, obviously, if some people are to be taken notice of - I name no names). And in London dealing with some rather sad family stuff.bobo the clown wrote:Bloody hell ... where have you been ?William the White wrote:Tonight I tried a new Jura malt - because it was on offer at Sainsbury's at £13 something a half bottle. Home now. I coincide with sunshine for once.

I plead guilty ref the Uni, but you know that.
How was Portugal ? Is it surviving the horrific economics ?

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Portugal was brilliant for me, as a visitor, who goes for - and gets - a specific agenda of sun, ocean, fish, books and wine.
Every conversation I had with a Portuguese person (and, as a tourist, you can never get to the heart of it) had them worried about the future.
Yes, I know what you think about the University. One of my graduates has his play, written as a final year dissertation last year, produced in Manchester's 24:7 Theatre Festival, in a full professional production, directed by the Octagon's David Thacker. It opens on Wednesday. Why don't you pop along and see what a Bolton graduate can achieve? I'll meet you there if you like.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Tampopo on Albert Square. With eldest daughter. Simple, reasonable, spicy Far East food with noodles (or rice). The daughter did the 'eastern Eye' set menu - two courses for £7,95 - starter plus Singapore noodles. Great bargain. I did a la Carte - cos the set menu had mainly prawns dishes that I don't eat. Pork dumplings, then a Malay chicken, garlic, chilli, soy sauce with thick noodles combination. Yum.
With wine and coffee it came to £40... Not bad... Good company as well...

Salmon steaks tonight. Tasteless bright pink stuff, clearly farmed and coloured. Bloody awful. Roll on the wild Canadian stuff coming in season.
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.
