Honestly? It's amongst my favourite fish - and as far as eating summat's flesh goes, in the main I exist on fish and chicken. Monkfish stands up to being consumed with a good red wine too. (OK, I know I'd even drink red wine with GG's cheesy omelette, but you know what I mean ).

Should any of you find yourselves in Shrewsbury and in need of a good Indian nosebag, then I implore you to check out Cafe Saffron. Not quite as good as Spice Valley was when it first opened, but at least as good as it is now, and it's still fecking good.

For main I had ( I've copied this bit from their menu, obviously)

Tawa Labra ... £10.95
Marinated grilled chicken, cooked with fresh ginger, garlic and fresh green herbs. Served on a hot Tawa to give that Labra taste.

Split a pilau rice and probably the best garlic naan I've ever eaten with another member of the group. We all got stuck into the popps (and arl ov dat shit), each had a starter too, along with main and a couple of Cobras; £23 each.

Tonight, post theatre visit (play finished about 7.30) went for a second visit to Evuna Tapas and Wine Merchants on Deansgate, Mancland...

Excellent food, so tasty.

To stray towards heresy on here - better than El Rincon... We had three tapas each. Couldn't finish. Fish, seafood, tortilla, chicken... All brilliant...

2 eggs, 3 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, mushrooms and fried tomatoes.

4 slices of bread and butter and cup of tea.

Marvellous.

I hasten to add that I did one hour weights in the gym and ran a 5k before this.

5 mile walk this afternoon and couple of pints.

I'll be there on Thursday. I know exactly where this place is & will give it a go. Rather less salubrious a town, but for high class Indian scran in that general area the Anise, in Wrexham, is worth a go too.

Oh & GtE ... never had Monkfish ? Amazed. No fish quite like it. Expensive though.

If you get the fishmonger to prep it for you, ALWAYS make sure they've removed that membrane that surrounds Monkfish. Cook it in that and you've ruined a feckin expensive fillet. From experience.

Yup cheese omlettes are gooood.... See my post above. especially with fresh free range eggs from your own garden. Dunno about the sauce and pepper additions though.

The honesty box only had free range duck eggs left in last week, so I bought a half a dozen. Wowzers!!!!

Sardines from the fish market tonight... they look good... though, in truth, they nearly always disappoint after the Portuguese experience (I had sardines at least five times in my 12 days in Portugal!).

Going to cook on a hot griddle, have with some tiny new potatoes, asparagus and mangetouts... Simple... And, I hope, delicious...

Have some gorgonzola, going to have a little nibble with some oloroso. Seem to be going through a sherry phase at the moment - have some fino and manzanilla in stock also.
