Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
At least Afobe's scoring record is right up there with the KDs and NGogs.
The reason Moo/Holden worked was that it was a proper trad central midfield for a 442,Both would put a shift in but Moo was essentially best at breaking up play and getting in the way whereas Holden was a proper up and downer who linked play better than anyone we've seen for a long time.NRC was a decent player but just didnt have the dynamism of Holden so with Moo they were a bit pedestrian. The rest of the midfielders available were at best impact players, none of them could graft and tackle and none really were link men.Mavis was ok running with the ball and Pratley could ghost in but otherwise they offered way too little to be part of a central two. Infact Vela looked a better bet in terms of having some passing range and being capable of getting a foot in and long term if Vela lives up to the promise he appears to have I can see him working well with Holden.Andrews at least appears to be an effective allround midfielder.
Coyle has signed too many impact players, fancy sorts who occasionally do something useful but disappear and dont have the wherewithall to maintain an impact.Left us wide open last season without Holden and Moo.
A left back and a solid midfielder would probably do us for now.To me Alonso doesnt have the pace especially over the first yard to be a left back.If anything in the long term you could see him developing into the sort of player Campo was,a liability as a last line of defense but put infront of thee back four a useful stopper with the range of passing to dictate play to some extent. Mind you Alonso is probably 2/3 years off having the confidence and experience to be able to do this and it still wouldnt work in a 442.
I can see Ricketts having a very busy year being the only genuinely consistent reliable defender we have in any of the back 4 positions. Hope he doesnt get injured.

Afobe could be a great signing based on what little there is about him. Strong quick 6 footer, assume he has a fgood touch as arsenal wouldnt have him otherwise. 8 goals and 10 assists in 32 games at huddersfield as an 18yr old.Lets hope he doesnt spend the season sat with Sordell watching KD knocking the ball down to nobody.

They're probably only unspeakable outside of Wales. Where you are I suspect they'd count as polite dinner table small-talk.bobo the clown wrote:If they do ... I shall hunt to down, like a cur, & do unspeakable things to you.

I had to suffer an advertisement for Wigan season tickets to see "their 8th season in the Prem", on a local radio station the missus had on, a couple of Saturday mornings ago. Can't believe how much that grated.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Let's hope so, it's about time them dicks went downJez wrote:Looks like Miyaichi is coming back to the north west, but not to us

Sanchez back on????

Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
Sanchez is not going to happen.
He is using us to generate interest from other clubs in the prem.
Wigan is a possible destination...

Would you really want a guy who you spend ages courting but doesn't reply to your calls, you don't know where he is and we can't work out who his actual agent is ?

So is your opinion that the players we had out yesterday played to their maximum and are just inadequate, or that they are as a group under performing for some reason?thebish wrote:like Pussy said - if he's better than what was on show yesterday - then YES!!!bobo the clown wrote:Would you really want a guy who you spend ages courting but doesn't reply to your calls, you don't know where he is and we can't work out who his actual agent is ?

some are wank and some underperformed - not sure why the same would have to apply to each player.BWFC_Insane wrote:So is your opinion that the players we had out yesterday played to their maximum and are just inadequate, or that they are as a group under performing for some reason?thebish wrote:like Pussy said - if he's better than what was on show yesterday - then YES!!!bobo the clown wrote:Would you really want a guy who you spend ages courting but doesn't reply to your calls, you don't know where he is and we can't work out who his actual agent is ?
with the new ones - I guess it is hard to know how much more they are capable of - and i still count Mears as new as he missed most of the time he has been with us - but he just looked dire...
Mills too - every bit as calamitous as knight on the day...
Lee - underperformed (cos I have seen him play much better)
KD - I thought he was past it last season - I haven't changed my mind
so - without going through the entire 38 players we put out - a mix of the two.
biggest thing we lacked yesterday - ANYBODY getting control of the ball or even attempting to win it back...
portsmouth held possession for huge chunks of time with no problems and no sign from us we'd ever get the ball back - or even that we wanted it back.
if Sanchez can do that - then - as I said - YES.

Liam Lawrence who apparently ran us ragged yesterday, is one of the 2 players Pompey have left that they have to get rid of. Worth a punt?

Another right-winger? Not sure it's addressing the issues, HG.Harry Genshaw wrote:Liam Lawrence who apparently ran us ragged yesterday, is one of the 2 players Pompey have left that they have to get rid of. Worth a punt?
