Early drive up to The Lakes this morning at 6.45am. Parked on the Birker Fell Road overlooking the Eskdale valley and the Scafells, camera on tripod, 200 images taken and home again by 12 noon. Was going to fit a walk in onto Green Crag but clouds of blackfly convinced me otherwise. Good morning out though.

Got the opportunity to go to the triathlon village in Hyde Park tomorrow.

I'm going to get to use the equipment the elite athletes had access to.

I hope they turn everything down.

Just looking for stock images and pursuing an idea I've had for some time. Was trying to get a good scenic background with a blurred vehicle moving across and into the image. Not artistic (as yours are) but hoping to make a few shillings out of it. Hellish difficult to get the exposure and the movement both right.

it might have involved getting up at 5am and driving a 535mile round trip to that there London and back - but took middle child to pick up his A-level results - and he got fab grades - and a place at Teesside Uni to do computer games programming..

so - am knackered - but that's a bright spot in a pretty crappy week...

tho - now am realising that the house is gonna feel very empty come October... :-(

You have my sympathy, thebish. I recall only too well the day on which I drove my son (and the rest of my family) to Canberra, in order to get him sorted in his new digs, when he went to uni. there. We spent an hour or two exploring the local territory and working out his transport from his new 'home' to the campus and then left him on his ownsome lonesome. I think that that was the moment that I realised how much I love my children - my wife, myself and my daughter all waving arms through the windows as we drove away and my son dwindling in size in the rear view mirror. As we turned a corner and he was no longer visible I burst into tears. To this day I'm not sure as to whether I was emotional about him and his new challenge or for me and the loss, temporarily at least, of a son's companionship.

Congratulations to your 'middle' child! 8)

Yep, it's hard ... Yet inevitable and, indeed a very sad yet proud moment all wrapped up in one.

Wait till when, at the various holiday times, his return "home" becomes less inevitable and he has "other things to do" than jump on the next Virgin (train ... I just thought I'd use that line while I still could) and come back as soon as able.

It's what you want for them, but it's a bastard.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

dujon & bobo...

you're not wrong!!

I was terrible the last time round - leaving (abandoning!!) my eldest in middlesbrough where he knew nobody - 250miles from home...

i know in 2yrs time there is every chance the third one will bugger off too and they'll all be gone!

:(

when I dropped my eldest off for the first time - I couldn't quite do it - I was staying overnight nearby - and I invented an excuse to go back (I bought him a 6-gang extension cable as there was only one socket in his room)...

i can remember welling up as i drove down the A19 back to London... in fact - I'm welling up now with the memory...

I'm a total soft-arse when it comes to stuff like this...

If you are experiencing 'empty nest syndrome', you are more than welcome to look after my moody 13 year old daughter and my 'lively' 4 year son for a few weeks if you want.

So I guess I'm in a minority at actually wanting the buggers to grow up and move out? (Although I love 'em dearly). The daughter has "half" moved out which leads to much less arguing with Ma.

If you're worried about the house being empty, get yerself out of it and get a proper bloody job. :-)

Good theory Worthy, but it means you HAVE to talk to the wife !!
