Re: Fabrice Muamba
He's retiring.
"Bolton Wanderers announce that Fabrice Muamba has retired from playing professional football.
The decision has been made on the recommendation of his medical team, following extensive consultations with leading cardiologists both in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Muamba said: “Since suffering my heart attack and being discharged from hospital, I have remained utterly positive in the belief I could one day resume my playing career and play for Bolton Wanderers once again.
“As part of my on-going recovery, last week I travelled to Belgium to seek further medical advice from a leading cardiologist.
“But the news I received was obviously not what I had hoped it would be and it means I am now announcing my retirement from professional football.
“Football has been my life since I was a teenage boy and it has given me so many opportunities.
"Above all else, I love the game and count myself very lucky to have been able to play at the highest level.
“While the news is devastating, I have much to be thankful for.
“I thank God that I am alive and I pay tribute once again to the members of the medical team who never gave up on me.
“I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career, and the Bolton fans who have been incredible.
“I am blessed to have the support of my family and friends at this time.”
Chairman Phil Gartside said: “To have Fabrice here and with us is truly amazing and we are all very thankful for that.
“We are all hugely disappointed that Fabrice will be unable to return to his playing career but we have to be guided by the medical recommendations and the best interests of Fabrice.
“The most important thing is that Fabrice and his family have the rest of their lives ahead of them.”
Manager Owen Coyle said: “We have spoken with Fab and he knows we will always support him in whatever he wants to do and that we will always be here for him.
“He is obviously massively disappointed that he won’t be able to carry on his career, but everyone has seen what a fighter and strong person he is in mind and body.
“We know that he will go on to achieve great things and within all this disappointment, the most important thing is that he is here, alive, today.”'

Re: Fabrice Muamba
Aye. Good luck indeed. Ultimately he's alive, and that's all that truly matters now.

Good luck to Fab and his family, the important thing was always to ensure that he was around to have time with his family and not to play football again. It's a miracle that he is with us.
Good luck Fab you'll be missed.

Yeah, I know how much he wanted to play again, and believe there was a chance, but as Coyle said last night, they still don't know exactly what caused it.....he should enjoy his life now!
Re: Fabrice Muamba
Shame to hear that he's not going to be able to continue playing for us again but we always knew it might come down to this.
Hopefully he'll go on and have a successful career in another one of his interests.

Re: Fabrice Muamba
I think deep down we all knew he would never play for Bolton again although we all hoped he could resurrect his career.
Good luck and look after yourself Fab.

Gutted that he can't play again, but I'm exceptionally glad that he won't be putting himself at risk any more. He's still with us - that's more than we could have asked for. I wonder if they'll have some sort of tribute? I know, I know, some of you will think it's ridiculous, but this is a rather unprecedented situation, and I'm interested to see what the club do.

Least surprising news I have ever read, but it doesn't change the disappointment in seeing it... Good luck to Fabrice and his family...

All the best, Fab.
Might dust off my typing fingers and pen an article if that would be ok.

Can't help but get a little choked up at the news.
Will miss him on the pitch but at least his wife and son won't miss him in their lives.

Take it 50-50? Or both write one, stick them together in the same article?

Re: Fabrice Muamba
Happy to have him alive. And, as Caps says, now we (as an ongoing football club) can put this lingering doubt to one side.

Glad that he can draw a line under it and know that he can now move on with his life. Would love to think the club can find some sort of working capacity for him. All the best, Fab.

Suppose it'll have to be "One niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil and N'Gog has scored" from now on then?!
