Yesterday, after The Dark Knight Rises, was Wahaca on the South Bank.

Between us we had:
Tortilla chips with guacamole and a tomato salad
Chicken quesadillas
Fish tacos
Spicy chicken tortillas
Beef tortillas with spicy slaw, black beans and hot sauce
Chicken and Lancashire cheese rolls
Mango sorbet
Assortment of ice creams
Bottle of wine
Couple of coronas

All enjoyed sitting by the Thames (in fooking roasting heat) without a care in the world, knowing the result, but not knowing how shite we'd played. A very pleasant evening and at £110 for 5, not too bad a price.

Sounds a proper good do does that, BP. Though this does rather jump out as being somewhat incongruous?!

Chicken and Lancashire cheese rolls

It does sound odd, admittedly. The chicken and cheese are rolled together in filo pastry and cooked, not sure what else is in there. Served with salad and another generous helping of Lancashire. Not my favourite, but it's just about the only thing on the menu that my daughter will eat.

They have other restaurants at Covent Garden, Canary Wharf, the new Stratford City shopping centre opposite the Olympic Park and over at White City. There's also a street van below the restaurant on the South Bank.

They're owned by Thomasina Meiers who won one of the early series of Masterchef, when it was brought back with John and Gregg. She also has a programme 'Mexican Food Made Easy' on either C4 or C5.

Ah now you mention the van I know where you mean, we tried to get in there a few weeks ago but it was chaos! It was duiring that exceptionally hot week or so we had. Ended up just getting a beer from that van and walking further down the bank.

I believe you 'can', never done it myself. I'm not sure what the defrosted outcome would be like though.....

Griddled chicken, with bacon, avocado and salad on ciabatta. Accompanied by a selection of plain and spicy potato wedges. Washed down with a glass or two of chardonnay. Bloody lovely. Eton mess to follow!

Home made cottage pie, carrots and peas covered over with meat-stock gravy garnished with gravy granules. Dusted with a salt and pepper cloud and a small amount of HP sauce topping. Whole lot made into a pleasant memory by two chocolate eclairs and a large mug of tea.

Good call. Seem to remember freezing a load of roasted turkey a few years ago when it was mine and the then girly's turn to do Christmas dinner for my mum and dad. For fear of running out I bought a turkey the size of Yorkshire. Generally used it (post defrost) in stuff that we did in the slow cooker. Worked out very well.

well what a heads up that was, went tonight, im not much of a foodie, but i know what i like and the menu here pretty much ticked all my boxes, and it was tremendous! not only that i loved the vibe of the place, the informality, and also the wine and the beer was good too... honestly, brilliant in every aspect. came to about £60 for the three of us, minus £25 corporate claim back. tenner each give or take.

i had steak tacadilos, chicken quesedilas and the lancashire cheese tacos. plus the black beans and the spicey slaw, plus the Tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa while we waited - plus a dabble a the others plates too, my mate ordered a burrito but was wrongly presented with a burrito platter (meant for the next table) which we didnt realise till they brought his proper burrito, so that got shared out too!

Glad you enjoyed it. There's always a great atmosphere, helped by the most friendly and least intrusive staff of any restaurant that i've ever eaten in. We go virtually every time that we're in that neck of the woods.

I emailed them a while ago to ask if they had any plans to open in Manchester. They said at the time that they were focussing on London. Hopefully, now that they've opened a few more places down there, they'll look oop North.

Yeah the waiter who gave us the wrong burrito sharing platter thing just said, “well, you might as well enjoy it!” I thought that was a bang on attitude! And deserving of a handsome tip. Didnt take them long to whip up another batch for the next table.

Not sure it’d work up north tho, we don’t have the weeknight trade – in London its packed out every night all year, Manchester would only fill it at weekends. I might be wrong tho, at them kind of prices id be there a few nights a week!

I know what you're saying about the weeknight trade, but the prices would be a big attraction for many imo. Doubt it would take long to get a reputation, assuming that the atmosphere and level of staffing can be replicated. I only asked them from a selfish point of view, as we only get to eat there when we're darn sarf.
