Would you have him back , would the players who he left for "premiership football" (and hasn't got) want him back? I know Knight is his big bubby but not sure how it would go down in the dressing room.
For me I would take him back for a season, Provided the players were happy with it, he'd be a lot cheaper to sign ,( but isn't "one for the future"),than Spearing
Too bloody right. Knight hasn't done that without some inside knowledge of NRC's mindset.

Unless he burnt his bridges then get the fckr signed Coyle.

Ahh, just seen the weak point in that .... Cpt. Chaos.

I saw Reo-Coker outside the club shop before the game on Friday night. Looked like he was with his wife and 2 kids.

I like Reo-Coker and there's no doubting his ability. If he was in our team, I think we'd have much more solidity and class but the only question is what went on behind the scenes. None of us know that, unfortunately, and that's the key issue. Was he disruptive? Do other players dislike him? I'm not suggesting that that's true but the fact is, we don't know what has happened. Looking at it from a fans perspective, I'd love to have him back but things are rarely that simple.

All of which is true, but he left in May and hasn't been replaced yet, despite our manager saying all summer that a defensive midfield player was what was needed. Yet he's only managed to identify one target and messed around with him all summer.

I'd not take NRC back because he made it clear he thought he was better than us.

But the issue is that Coyle is dicking around trying to find someone who can put a fecking tackle in. We don't need a world beater just someone with some balls and some presence.

He had a release clause and took it because he wanted top-flight football. O.C let him go. No mystery there. So far his ideas haven't worked out and he has no contract.

I thought you wanted us to take the cash for M Davies?
I would. Because Mark Davies isn't anywhere near as good as the 6M Swansea apparently offered. Not in my opinion. He has gone missing twice already this season.

He's clearly not suitable for a 4-4-2. And for me not worth building a 4-5-1 around.

I'd not trust Coyle with the money in that case either but the plus side of that would be that we would presumably be forced into buying and accomodating someone who could tackle.

Seeing as at least we know that's his target.

God only knows what he'd do with 10M for LCY!
You don't 'build a 4-5-1' formation around anyone. You do it to, you know, get the best from your squad and win football matches. Apparently that's not obvious to you or thicko.

Mavies has all the right attributes to play in the 'hole' of a 4-5-1. He's good on the ball, running at defenders, winning free kicks and finding a through ball. Instead we have him playing in the centre circle or passing back to Zat Knight. It's bizarre.

He would be the best centre midfielder we have if he signed. NRC with either Andrews, Davies, Vela, Pratley or wishful thinking Holden. Don't like the fact he left in the first place but he's more suited than a fee for Spearing and he should fit in quickly

I'm not saying you do, but for me if you're going to play 1 up front, and as it stands like it or not that 1 is Kevin Davies, then the attacking midfield player has to score goals. I don't see MD scoring goals, I also don't see him creating much either. Lots of runs, lots of falls, lots of running down blind alleys.

For me if we are sticking anyone behind the striker right now it's Eagles!

What point are you missing here BWFCi? Everybody knows we need a good defensive midfielder. It's what all the Spearing/Reo Coker talk is about. If we had a decent one many things might change in front of him. As it is Mark Davis isn't playing a role he excels at. With a solid man behind him all that may well change.

allow my degree in maths to come to your aid...

Carlos Sanchez seems definitely to have been a target
Jay Spearing seems definitely to have been a target

by my reckoning - that's two.

and - I know you don't believe a word he says - but Alan Nixon says there are or have been other names in the frame... (and that of those - Spearing is the most likely...)

Nah I get that. 4-5-1.......
I just haven't seen enough from MD to suggest he's worth a place in that system in that role. For me Eagles who looks like scoring regularly is a better bet in the behind the striker position.

If we play 4-5-1 with Davies up front we'd need goals from round the side. I think Eagles would bag plenty in that role, but Mark Davies I've yet to see evidence for.

I do believe Nixon and I guess you are right. But Spearing is an afterthought, once Sanchez went bad.

I'm not convinced still that Spearing is exactly what we need either.

it's not as if you are short of ammunition to throw at Coyle... I just don't see the point of simply making stuff up.. what's the benefit??

(and how on earth do you know spearing is an "afterthought" as opposed to the next name on the list of targets??)

Bish my fear is that like Todd, Coyle doesn't know how to make a team more solid, and his belief is all about players who can play rather than those that stop the other team.

For me some of it is the managers mentality, Allardyce went out to first stop the other team then play, and we had the likes of Tofting, Warhurst, Faye, Campo, Elliot etc all deployed in the area in front of the back four to do just that.....

I just worry that despite what he says, Coyle is still looking for someone to play in a 4-4-2 and therefore wants more than a simple midfield destroyer.

Time will tell.......

I would happily take NRC back. He could have stayed with us through pre-season to keep fit, taken his wages, and then buggered off on August 31. He didn’t do that. He wanted to explore his options so he canceled his contract.

The only thing is that he’s probably not fit right now and it could be months before he is.

NRC said in a recent interview that he was keeping himself in shape so he can go straight into the swing of things.

This suggests that he knows NRC is far from fit, as he would start if he is. If we take NRC, it would be as a last resort when all else fails, just like coming back to Bolton would be a last resort for him, only if he cant get a PL team to sign him on.
