I'm not entirely sure we'll survive the Championship this year. That sounds like an exaggeration but it's an accurate reflection of how little confidence I have in Coyle and Gartside.

I didn't realise the Bible of the established church was laced with 3-2-1 riddles.thebish wrote:Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
'Take away the dross', well dross is rubbish, so is that a clue for Dusty Bin? But with the silver? Well a galvanised bin is silver, but so is a man's grey hair. And the dross, well could that used to describe something that was rubbish, rather than rubbish itself. And what about a vessel? That could be a boat or a ship, or it could also be a container of some kind. Perhaps it's a container for solid objects, like a bin, or might it be a container for liquids like a barrel? And the word forth, could that be a clue for a finishing position, a position perhaps finer than could be expected?
Well, tonight Owen Coyle you've not won Dusty Bin! You've won the dismissal of your first team coaching staff, to be replaced by a Butt, yes England's Nicky Butt, plus a guaranteed Championship play-off place with the second leg to be played at The Reebok...

I don't think we would survive in the Premiership this season, or get promoted from the Championship this season with Coyle in charge.

Not another thinly veiled 'Coyle Out' thread. Look I get it some fans don't like him but I don't see how it benefits anyone by constantly going on about it.
Let's just get behind them, because at the end of the day we're still all BWFC fans and Coyle/Gartside/Davies aside we'll all still be here long after they have gone

The booing in the ground is a different matter, but as Gartside said recently we have a generation of support who have only known us in the sky league.
They have expectations and have grown up with the examples set by other supporters and our own when Megson was here.
The Megson out, booing and banners shite was the start of a slippery slope here and I said so at the time.
No way will we have a positive atomosphere at the Reebok now until performances and results meet fans expectations.
And there is no way of changing that now.
Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
Too true, having seen us at the lowest ebb (Charlie Wright, Phil Neal, 4th Division, losing to Tranmere in Play-offs etc) I know that some fans have only known us 'successful' but it does need to be pointed out that we among another bunch of teams (Coventry, Charlton, Leeds) have punched well beyond our means for 11 seasonsBWFC_Insane wrote:Aye but this is a message board and whether folk say how good things are or how bad it won't change owt.TKIZ! wrote:Not another thinly veiled 'Coyle Out' thread. That's all well and good but it doesn't mean we are well managed now. Fans are worried about slippery slopes and becoming the next Coventry for example.....TKIZ! wrote:Too true, having seen us at the lowest ebb (Charlie Wright, Phil Neal, 4th Division, losing to Tranmere in Play-offs etc) I know that some fans have only known us 'successful' but it does need to be pointed out that we among another bunch of teams (Coventry, Charlton, Leeds) have punched well beyond our means for 11 seasonsBWFC_Insane wrote:Aye but this is a message board and whether folk say how good things are or how bad it won't change owt.TKIZ! wrote:Not another thinly veiled 'Coyle Out' thread. Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
I can see that, I truly can. I want us to do well, I know that Coyle makes mistakes but then so does every manager. I'm worried about the slippery slope but at the moment it's three games into a new season and we're having the same threads we did from last season.
Footballers/Managers by their very nature are confidence creatures, jumping on their backs for one misplaced pass or making a substitution they don't agree will not make them play better or more tactically astute
What are our other options manager wise that people wouldn't jump on Gartside's back for appointing unless immediate results were achieved?

Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
Not saying there are, but seeing as we went down last year and haven't exactly started wi a flourish this year, how far down the slope do you let it slide before you think it's time for a new manager?TKIZ! wrote:I can see that, I truly can. When is it too late?
Personally I'd have got rid last November, to try and keep us in the money league. We've probably got one season to get back up before the best of our players are picked off and the whole thing begins to unravel. So I'm not sure anyone is being unreasonable at all.

Cos we're repeating last seasons mistakes, perhaps?TKIZ! wrote:I can see that, I truly can. I want us to do well, I know that Coyle makes mistakes but then so does every manager. Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
Those of us that were around during our last long slump are still terrified of it happening again!
Unfortunately, there are no easy answers and which ever way Gartside jumps, history will judge him. Last time around we sacked Greaves, Anderton & Mulhall in quick succession but then gave the inexperienced chap (McGovern) more time and he took us down in his first season and the decline continued.
At the time I thought we should have stuck with Mulhall who had worked miracles in keeping us up. I recall the late Ian Moores saying an experienced man, rather than McGovern, would have kept that 82-83 side up.

Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
It's not a huge slid though is it? We're on 4 points from a possible 9, we're two points from the play-offs. West Ham were in a similar predicament last season and they stuck with Allardyce, Reading stuck with McDermott after a similar start.
I'll be completely honest and say if we're in dire straits after say 12/13 games then we should think about getting rid but let's throw our weight behind the team and people can say it's to spite Coyle or not because surely supporting the team is the important part in this?

So in a similar vein we should repeat the same threads, shall we get the bedsheets and paints ready as well?CAPSLOCK wrote:Cos we're repeating last seasons mistakes, perhaps?TKIZ! wrote:I can see that, I truly can. To be frank, you told everyone to get behind Coyle and it'd be reet last season.TKIZ! wrote:It's not a huge slid though is it? It wasn't.
His total and utter failure last season despite relatively little open stick from fans at the ground, until the very last couple of games, was surely enough grace?
I do get what you're saying but you can't easily get behind something you don't really believe in deep down! However much you might want it to succeed.
And as I said here is the place for that to be aired, not in the ground. But you'll never change that mindset now. Thinking it was alright for people to boo a manager before he'd even started the job, opened the floodgates on that.
Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
I don't think this is unique to us or our fans. Any recently relegated club who stick with their manager and start the new season with one of the worst performances in recent memory will inevitably come in for stick from the terraces.
It's alright saying 'what about West Ham and Reading', but we're in a completely different situation to Reading (who weren't relying on getting promoted) and West Ham (who had just appointed a new manager). It also doesn't take into account that for every team that starts off sluggishly, goes on a run and gets promoted, there are dozens who start off sluggishly and go nowhere because they simply aren't very good. On the basis of the last 18 months, you can hardly blame people for fearing we fall into the latter category.

Re: Would we survive the premiership this year?
it's an interesting question..
I think it would have depended on how the results went...

I think we'd stand a decent chance this year to be honest. Yes, Swansea may have a blistering start, but can they continue.
Villa will be struggling this year, I reckon we could do it (if there of course).

With Coyle in charge? Not a chance.
