I have heard whispers that Karl Robinson is being lined up as a potential replacement if/when Coyle leaves!

Didn't say he hadn't, HG. But not as the gaffer since 1997. I can't help feeling someone who stays in the background from age 45 to 60 isn't mad keen on the limelight.

For the record, I'm not mad keen on Curbs, and I'm not sure he'd be mad keen on us. Too jellied-eel.

Front page of the League Managers Association website has a pull-down menu with all their currently unemployed members. Selected names, presented without comment:
Kevin Blackwell
Phil Brown
Alan Curbishley
Billy Davies
Iain Dowie
Glenn Hoddle
Paul Ince
Roy Keane
Gary McAllister
Mick McCarthy
Alex McLeish
Gareth Southgate
Ray Wilkins

There are dozens and dozens of others...

That is a horrible list of potential replacements. The only two I'd be happy with would be Ray Wilkins and Glenn Hoddle because they aren't complete failures unlike the rest. I'd consider someone young and inexperienced too, maybe even Gary Neville or someone like that.

If we sacked Coyle tomorrow he'd be filed in the complete failure drawer

Its not all about previous records, we can't be that picky.

Some of it is about what's right for the club now.

Someone who has managed to get a team out of this division. Someone who will bring some tactical nous and discipline.

McCarthy and Billy Davies from that list would fit the bill for me.

And yes before the whole 'they're record is no better than Owen Coyles' is brought up, the reason that Coyle would be sacked by our club would be because they don't think he will take us back up.

So we will be looking for someone else with the capability to do that.

And because we are no longer a premiership side, we will either be taking a McCarthy or a younger risk.

Either way the candidate must be pragmatic and results orientated.

Not someone who talks about exciting football and fanciful young spaniards!

Aye, quite a few names on that list have comparable or better CVs.

Wilkins is the one I'd have in a flash might just be what we need, mixture of the good the bad and and the ugly.
Coyle, just shuffle off before the men in white coats arrive.
Megson, Coyle and folk think I'm feckin' mad?

COME ONE COYLE FANS, DEFEND THE feck*!

Hoddle with Wilkins as assistant would be my pick from all the names mentioned on here and previous threads.

is hoddle even interested in getting back into management?? I mean - how long has it been???

from Wiki...
Hoddle returned to management on 7 December 2004 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, again succeeding Dave Jones. Wolves lost only one of remaining 25 games but failed to reach the play-offs because 15 of those games had been draws. Wolves were expected to finish in the top 6 under Hoddle in the 2005–06 season but again draws cost them with Wolves drawing 19 of their 46 league games. They were also one of the lowest goalscoring teams in the division scoring just 50 goals in the league all season. Wolves finished 7th, 8 points off the playoffs. Wolves fans turned against Hoddle and there were chants against him during the last home game of the season against Watford.

If Glenn Hoddle becomes manager of Bolton I will disassociate myself from the club forever.

Long story. Nothing to do with his football but his beliefs. The man's a c*nt.

I suspect you're safe GtE.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Glen Hoddle is up there with George Graham and David O'Leary as far as names who continually pad out the betting markets to be the next manager of clubs, despite the fact that they haven't managed anywhere in about a decade.

Saying that, I thought Kevin Blackwell had given it up and yet he's apparently applied for the Coventry job.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Bruce Rioch yet.
