Ordinarily, I'd jump right for the ex-player in that list and be calling for Brown as our new boss. But, relative success at Hull aside, he hasn't really done much, and this whole Coyle saga has put me off signing managers just because they used to play for us.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Didn't say he hadn't, HG. But not as the gaffer since 1997. I can't help feeling someone who stays in the background from age 45 to 60 isn't mad keen on the limelight.Harry Genshaw wrote:Joe Jordans been in football more recently than Alan Curbishley!
For the record, I'm not mad keen on Curbs, and I'm not sure he'd be mad keen on us. Too jellied-eel.
Front page of the League Managers Association website has a pull-down menu with all their currently unemployed members. Selected names, presented without comment:
Kevin Blackwell
Phil Brown
Alan Curbishley
Billy Davies
Iain Dowie
Glenn Hoddle
Paul Ince
Roy Keane
Gary McAllister
Mick McCarthy
Alex McLeish
Gareth Southgate
Ray Wilkins
There are dozens and dozens of others...
Can't help but think that someone of Roy Keane's mentality might be just what we need right now...

Curbishley was my first choice when Megson was sacked, but he's been out of the game for so long now that I fear it would take him a long time to get up to speed on opposition players and tactics.

Eddie Howe. I need a laugh.
And Brucie, that left back Jiminho perchance?

he'd have a poachers warchest* to get his mates back in from wherevers.
* its probably only £200 , but y'know.

Ask an Ipswich fan about that idea. Keane is worse than Coyle.truewhite15 wrote:

Bruce is exactly what we needed 12 months ago as an experienced No.2 to Coyle.Tombwfc wrote:I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Bruce Rioch yet.

Maybe, but for me you can't "impose" a number 2 on a manager. Coyle appoints his staff and its up to him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Bruce is exactly what we needed 12 months ago as an experienced No.2 to Coyle.Tombwfc wrote:I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Bruce Rioch yet.
If Gartside comes along and says "you're not doing well enough we need to give you a more experienced assistant" you may as well just remove the manager in the first instance.
If Coyle felt he needed more experience in his setup he could have got it.
If he didn't feel he needed it, then for me you can't interfere with that.

Re: owen out 2012/2013
I have read a lot of posts that basically say that any manager but Coyle could get us up with the ace squad that we have and (going as far back as the start of last season) that anyone (including list members) would be welcome in Coyle's place...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Does it? anyway - any conversation that suggests Hoddle is possible/likely/preferable is clearly not sane!

indeed - I very much wish we had gone down that kind of route (as M'boro did so many moons ago..)Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Bruce is exactly what we needed 12 months ago as an experienced No.2 to Coyle.Tombwfc wrote:I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Bruce Rioch yet.
but I suspect it could never have happened if reports of Coyle's stubborn-ness/pride are even only half true...

Aye you can only really have one manager though I'd have loved to see Rioch take Coyle under his wing. Perhaps he could visit privately,he certainly needs a Yoda figure.TKIZ! wrote:Bob on thatBWFC_Insane wrote:Maybe, but for me you can't "impose" a number 2 on a manager. The new manager game is really tricky isnt it? The unemployed list is all damaged goods. Some are incompetent some are insane some just never made the grade in the first place. Curbishley looks good but has he ever been north of watford and how driven would he be now after years overachieving at charlton then getting stiffed in his dream job.
Billy Davis is a good manager but would scare gartside shitless and wind everybody on here up a treat.McCarthy(always liked his honesty) like many of his age can almost certainly get it up but struggles to sustain it,Wilkins, very London and why hasnt he been a manager already and why did chelsea bin him?
Is there an overachiever who didnt move on last summer? It's a crucial point in the club's history quite likely so I dont envy the pressure on Gartside to make the right decisions now and of course what appears a good decision can turn out to be complete shite anyway as we recently discovered.
My dream team.....Megson and Coyle for shits and giggles. Let Megson do the PR and Coyle organise the defense and scouting network

Love Rioch to appear in the corner of the room during training session and shout "Looking. Found someone you have. Yes?"Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Aye you can only really have one manager though I'd have loved to see Rioch take Coyle under his wing. On the subject of Glenn Hoddle, I once read that his shortcomings as a coach come from the fact that he can't get his head around the fact that his charges can't perform to the level that he once did as a player.
We should get him in from Orient. "You can bring your mates and tell them to bring their fecking dinner".

May the bridges I burn light your way
