are you thinking short term and then ditch him too - or do you think he could build the long-term premiership stability of the club?
We need someone to restore some structure and organisation and take us up. As a premiership side we may have attracted better, hence why I'd have pulled the trigger in November. However we are where we are.

If Gartside sacks Coyle it's cos he thinks he won't take us up. Therefore that would be the immediate name.

Not sure long term exists really seeing as a young ambitious manager if we found one and he did well, he'd be poached by Liverpool or Villa etc anyway.......
VILLA! Christ we really have sunk to new depths

If we're giving ex-players a shout then I can't look any further than Sir McGinlay.

I hope you're wrong...

a looooong succession of repeated short-term managers surely isn't the way to rebuild stability at the club? I'm not sure I want to appoint a short-term fix only to be going through all this again in 2 season's time...

as I have said before - I think you are overplaying the idea that we were any more attractive back in November than we are now... that's just whistful wishful thinking! (IMHO)

I think you underestimate how much pull the premiership has Bish. You said it yourself that managers prefer premiership sides.

Look at Swansea, Laudrup went there, they'd only been a prem side one season. Doubt he'd have touched them in the championship.....

Unfortunately, despite his fantastic 100% record in his 2 games so far, if you'd care to peruse Laudrup's managerial career in recent years you'll find it less tha illustrious. Rewind a couple of months, and I'd say he'd have just been happy to have had a job. I suspect he was pissing himself that the offer was 1) On this island 2) In a top division of any sort. I think you're getting carried away with his immediate, and I'll be the first to say it, fleeting success.

Eh? The double at brondby? A cup final and European football with getafe? Bit of a blot in Russia, but then decent enough at an imploding mallorca.

I suspect he may well move on from the swans to a bigger job next summer, but I reckon they will have a good season nonetheless.

I don't think it matters whether or not he is any good. Shit or not he wouldn't have taken the Swansea job if they were in the Championship. Being in the Premiership surely affects our 'pull', and in a big way. IMO anyway.

His last real success was 6 years ago. Allardyce was still with us and had us top-3 at christmas, that how relevant that timeframe is. Meanwhile, less than 18 months ago Coyle had us permanently in the top 8 and cruising in the cup. Football does not stand still.

I'm confident enough to lay a small internet wager that Laudrup will not be the raging success everyone has him pinned as. I'll give two very clear and concise reasons for this. 1) A club of Swansea's sture will find it hard to compete long term in the top flight when their methods have been sussed. 2) Laudrup really isn't all that.

This. Point was missed elsewhere! Laudrup wouldn't look twice at a championship club irrespective of record!

Certainly on the money.Echoes Coyle's statements about the players needing to turn up regardless of formation.Drops short of saying why arent they.... Reo Coker would make a difference especially at this level.Spearing is a scrapper who can at least make the midfield compete when we dont have the ball but he's not the sort who can dominate a game or turn a season round. That's got to be down to the more talented lads around him.And i still think a more fluid formation is going to get more from the squad than a flat 442 even with Spearing in it.

At least he has a point to prove and is ambitious enough to want to prove himself and stay at Anfield. The danger is he could get frustrated and sent off a few times given the feckless shower of shite he may be turning out with unless his enthusiasm and drive has a galvanising effect.

not when the team is on the edge of the precipice...

it's impossible to measure - so you could argue it both ways - but I'd say a team that (on paper) looks a favourite for promotion from the championship is at least as attractive as one that looks doomed to relegation from the premiership...

with the former - you get brushed with reflected glory
with the latter you are stained with residual ordure...

hmmm... can be argued either way... but it seems to me that last November "Swansea in the Premiership" looked a whole lot more attractive than "Bolton in the Premiership"

and that "Bolton in the Premiership looking doomed" wouldn't have looked all that much more attractive for any manager that didn't want to risk soiling his reputation with a relegation mark next to his name than "Bolton as one of the favourites for promotion (on paper) to the Premiership" does now...

But to be fair, you're more likely to get offered a side struggling in the premiership than one doing well in the championship.

Just cos sides doing well, usually don't change manager!

I tend to think we're a better prospect for a new manager now than when we were going down.Would have needed a red Adair type last season and with transfer windows etc it's something of a fools errand trying to rescue a fading team.It usually ends in failure and is hard to turn around the following season. At worst even with coyle in charge this team will be midtable so a man coming in can make his mark and put things into place without the intensity of pressure and fear that exists on a sinking ship. To me I'd assume it's a far better prospect.

I'm not sure how that changes anything? Because a job may be harder to get (and in our case - we are talking about the job being available!) does it mean it is less attractive? Does an intelligent manager (ie. the kind we want!) opt for a dog's job at a doomed club that will taint his record or jump on board the rare opportunity of a promotion-favourite managerial job coming up...

as i said - you can argue it both ways - but i really don't think there is that much in it.

My point being a manager would prefer a club struggling in the premiership to one struggling in the championship!

Fairly obviously....
