Went to La Salsa in Horwich tonight for the in laws birthday. Top scran that. Not quite as good as El Rincon but pretty close to it as well as more local, and all you can eat for £14

Cherry Tree 'in Blackrod' (it's nearer fecking Preston than it is Blackrod!). Awesome sounding menu. Food was decent, but kinda disappointing. Mushroom pot to start, tasty but too rich, especially as a starter. Pork belly with black pudding panceta mash and summer greens. Each bit was nice but too much going on to work as a whole. Certainly wasn't terrible, and I think I've been spoilt lately. Had a magician going round the tables too while you waited, was pretty good. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't put folk off going either.

Went to Al Fresco in Cockfosters last night. Nice little Italian Restaurant which is unusal given that the area is predominately Greek/ Turkish Cypriot and the array of restaurant's reflects that.
I had whitebait for starters (I know, it's a bit '70's but I haven't had it in ages and wanted something light)
For mains I decided to try something I hadn't had before, Ossobucco (sp) which was, I am informed, Veal knuckle served on a bed of saffron rice. It was...... different. It's basically a Veal chop with what looked (and tasted) like mince meat on the top. Not unpleasant but not a dish I'll re-visit anytime soon.
Dessert was Tiramisu (nice) and a coffee to finish. All told for the five of us including drinks it came to £145.00 which isn't bad for that neck of the woods.

If you watched Masterchef then you'd be able to make top nosebag to eat whilst watching top telly, instead of eating toast whilst watching the Pop Factor.Gooner Girl wrote: Hey i don't watch rubbish telly, i have very discerning choice. Our Col is the king of shite telly though.

I had this very conversation with WtW last Friday. Why? If I'm out for a nosebag then that's exactly what I'm out for along with a catch up with whoever it is that I'm nosebagging with. Why the juddering feck might I want to then be asked to pick a card? (any card?).Prufrock wrote: Had a magician going round the tables too while you waited.
When a friend of mine that lives darn sarf was last up, she and I decided to go to that Italian near the church in Westhoughton. They had a fecking country and western singer on at a volume louder than a Motorhead gig. Why?
Redhoocleous!
