My Latvian colleague has taken to furthering his understanding of English by going through the Urban Dictionary. He's just pointed out to me what a 'David Blaine' is.

May the bridges I burn light your way

Wouldn't another word for that be 'rape' ??
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Not a LEGITIMATE rape though, Bobo. So it's probably fine. Probably. I'll check with George Galloway for guidance.

When is rape legitimate, Prufrock? I imagine that pulling a trick like that (and I doubt they did unless the girl was already high) would be considered sexual assault in most jurisdictions.Prufrock wrote:Not a LEGITIMATE rape though, Bobo. When you're George Galloway, MP for Bradford West, and you fancy a quick insertion but don't have the time to ask politely.Montreal Wanderer wrote: When is rape legitimate, Prufrock?

Pru's comment is somewhat tongue in cheek Monty, regarding a recent story in the British press regarding George Galloway, of which I presume you are unaware.Montreal Wanderer wrote:When is rape legitimate, Prufrock? Re: Today I'm happy about......
pru was merely referencing what Akin said in america and what george galloway said in the UK about rape this last week (or so)... and NOT suggesting that rape is ever "legitimate"...Montreal Wanderer wrote:When is rape legitimate, Prufrock? Re: Today I'm happy about......
Ah, thanks. George Galloway is not high on our radar. All I remember of Akin was his theory a woman's body naturally prevented pregnancy if she was raped. I hadn't realized he used the term legitimate rape, meaning that it really was rape and not something the girl really asked for by the clothes she wore or whatever. Missouri! What do you expect.thebish wrote:pru was merely referencing what Akin said in america and what george galloway said in the UK about rape this last week (or so)... and NOT suggesting that rape is ever "legitimate"...Montreal Wanderer wrote:When is rape legitimate, Prufrock? In this part of the world a woman stands a good chance of ending up in prison after being raped. Often due to tempting the man or having sex outside of marriageMontreal Wanderer wrote:When is rape legitimate, Prufrock? Re: Today I'm happy about......
binned off the game at 1-1 cos it was obvious we'd lose it - and i'm a bad loser..
went out to knock off a load of jobs I have needed to do on the bike for a while...
1/ attached new tax disk (yes - I know - but it's not as straightforward as sticking it in your car window - it has tiny bastard fiddly screws to get to!!
2/ topped up oil & coolant
3/ fitted magic non-slip pillion seat-cover
4/ fixed leaking front-right fork seal with a genius little plastic tool - saving massive garage bill!
5/ replaced brake pads... now - they have just started squeaking - and I DO check them every now and again - and it DID pass the MOT not that long ago. Only one of the pads is easily visible - and i assumed they would have both worn at the same rate... So - i am embarrassed to show you this... just about the worst-worn break pad (the one on the left) I have ever seen - with actually NO pad left on it at all...
the one on the right is the one that is visible without taking them out....
I have NO IDEA how that got through an MOT!!!

5/ washed whole bike
6/ polished tank
result - gleaming, roadworthy bike that is no longer a death-trap!!
football??? what football??

Re: Today I'm happy about......
I hope you checked the disc itself, the bish, as that pad holder looks seriously abraded. Next question is how come it happened? It's normal to change both pads when wear becomes a factor. Would the fork fluid be responsible, perhaps? Is one of the caliper pistons not travelling to its full extent? Ah, the mystery of motor bikes and their workings.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
the disk - remarkably - is fine - not perfect, but fine... I suspect a sticky caliper spring and will have to do more investigation one day... I am wondering if one of the springs had seized (so that only one of the pads was making contact with the disk - the one that isn't as bad) - but that suddenly it has freed itself - and so I have suddenly started to hear the squeaking..Dujon wrote:I hope you checked the disc itself, the bish, as that pad holder looks seriously abraded. I think i will monitor the wear of the new pads over a few months and see if the problem persists...
it's not the fork fluid as these are the rear brake pads... (I replaced the front ones last week when they got fork oil on them...)

It's possible one just disintegrated before the other and you maybe fine - better safe than sorry.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
Kids. Always good for a laugh. Neighbours' little girl is four and and absolute little doll. Saw her yesterday with another little girl who she informed me was her friend and was doing a sleep over.
She came to visit this morning and my wife said: Has your friend gone home?"
"Oh yes, but she can't come any more"
Oh, why not?
"Cos when she'd gone my dad said "Never again".

Very proud of my Jessica who won a competition to model for a kids clothing company - which she did back in January. Anyway, the new collection is out today and her pics are on the front page of the web site and will be in the catalogue. Almost makes up for her keeping me up for 4 hours in the middle of last night. Almost.
