Pick a team

Post by CAPSLOCK » Wed Sep 19, 2012 10:22 am

Don't try to justify it, just pick a team out of what we've got fit and availabvle

You can have Spearing/Ream and Riley as fit

Gimme a formation too

I ask because I'm not one who rubbishes his signings - His logic and his treatment of said signings leaves me fcuking fuming, but I'm convinced we have a team that could batter most of this League

That's why he has to go

So

Playing 4-4-1-1

Bogdan
Ricketts, Mills, Knight, Ream
Lee, Andrews, Spearing, Petrov
Eagles
Sordell

When you consider, Ngog, Afobe, Davies x 2, Wylde and Pratley aren't there, it defies belief we're shite

Bogdan
Riley Knight Ricketts Ream
Lee Andrews Spearing Petrov
Eagles
Any Striker

Not sure it overly matters who is used up front at this moment in time, a case can be made for them all. Pick one and give em a run to get confidence up.

For away games this, even for some of the trickier home fixtures I really like the balance of this team.

At home maybe Ngog upfront with Sordell..or even Kevo with Sordell but that would probably mean dropping one of Lee/Eagles. Morale being we can only play ONE target man/striker who doesn't like scoring too much (forget kevo's purple patch) at a time. How a combination of Ngog/Kevo are going to score enough goals to get us out of the league, especially away from home, is definitely pushing it.

P.S have we ever seen Ream at left back?? If he bulks up a little I haven't lost all faith in him doing a job for us, same with Alonso if he ever gets to work with a competent defensive coach.

I would have more of a 4-3-3 probably.

----------Bogdan
Ricketts Knight Mills Alonso
--------Spearing
-----M Davies - Andrews
--Lee--------------Eagles
----------Sordell

We have enough decent ball-players here to circulate the ball and move up the field, helped by Sordell being an actual threat in behind. This may end up a bit lop-sided as Eagles is allowed to drift in and do whatever he wants so Alonso can get forward to fill that space. ('Ronaldo and Marcelo' style  ) One of the midfield 3 can then help him out / fill in if we lose it, although it'd be a tricky balance not to leave MA exposed to a 2 on 1. Can easily become more of a trendy 4-2-3-1 by moving Andrews and M.Davies, but it depends what we're up against.

Our go-to subs would then be changing the forward, or yes, putting another one on, Pratley and Petrov. It's not my fault we have 4 forwards for one 1 position.

Although Lee hasn't convinced me yet, he was so bad at Hull, we have to just keep playing him til he gets good again I suppose.

I'm all for a 'little sentiment' approach with older players, but it is with a slight bit of regret I leave Davies out as he's been involved in a lot of our goals - scored against Derby & Watford, and set up Eagles and Sordell vs Forest, but there's plenty games to go which he can be used in.

When the season's over we have time to formulate a team for next season. "Now" is our priority and we won't have KD next year, probably no Afoebe but we should have Wheater and Holden back. So.....for now, since defence is a shambles..

..............Bogdan
.......................Knight...............
Rickets ..................Alonso
........................Mills
Lee .........Spearing...... Eagles..... Petrov
.......................Sordell.
.......................Davies.

Keep the same basic team every week, it's the only way they'll ever get playing together. Use the subs for tired legs rather than it not working. Make it work and make the team put the effort in. Were not quick enough at the back to constantly spring the offside trap and we get dragged forward trying to do it. Let Knight play sweeper behind the defence. N'gog up front is producing nothing and he can't do the front man role. He's a sub till he gets his act together. So is Afoebe. So it's an unheard of 1-2-1-4-2. It's the future.

Jeez TD, the mind only boggles at how many goals that team would give away.

I reckon we'd need to score 3 a game to be sure of a point......

The mind boggles at what we're doing right now. Thought you were aware of that.

Notable how few people are picking two up top...

Pushed, at the mo I'd go for

.................Bogdan.................
Ricketts-Mills-Knight-Alonso
........Spearing-Andrews.........
CYL...........Eagles.........Petrov
.................Ngog...................

There's a few options, especially up front, but I think Ngog would be best at linking with the three behind him.

None of the back five can be sure of their place (bar possibly Knight) but that's as it should be.

I've included Alonso because we've got a double-pivot protecting the defence (although Andrews would have more licence to get forward).

Subs depend on opposition and state of game. If chasing, could go to 4-4-2: KD for physical nous if they're playing a deep line, Sordell for speed if they're playing a high line. Wylde for width, Mavies for more creativity, Pratley for one of the att-mid three if we want more solidity.

We've got a good squad.

Reading this thread and viewing our whole squad it winds me up Coyle can't get the best out of them. Has to be one of the best squads in the Championship player for player.

I'd go for:

Bogdan
Ricketts-Mills-Knight-Alonso
Spearing-Andrews
Eagles-Mavies-Petrov
Sordell

Maybe Lee for Mavies and shift Eagles into the centre. Then we have Pratley who with his doubters apparently did alright in this division. Plus Holden and Vela. Davo could provide a decent job in chasing a game too. Man we've got a decent squad for this level.

I love TD's faith in Davo! I think he's the only poster with him starting in his 11 :)

--------------Bogdan------------
-Ricketts--Knight---Mills--Alonso--
--------Spearing---Andrews------
-Eagles----M.Davies------Petrov--
-------------Ngog----------------

On current form I think Lee would struggle to justify his place.

I'm not sure that any mix of players or formation is going to make a huge difference to results. I've said before that Coyle has lost the dressing room - in my opinion - so rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic is not going to suddenly reinvigorate performances.

He has to go for the wounds to start healing. That said, with a different, tactically aware manager I believe we could get back to winning ways with a flexible 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation a la Allardyce.

My choice would be to use the best of the current with one or two neglected ex academy lads, i.e. Riley and Vela (when fit). The younger players should respond well to someone who places trust in them on the basis they are told they will get a long run in the team providing the trust is repaid and barring injury.

I would go for:

Bogdan
Riley - Mills - Knight - Alonso
Lee - Eagles - Spearing - Andrews - Petrov
Sordell

Maybe substitute M Davies for Andrews if his form improves and Holden for Andrews once he is ready. Vela, when repaired, could be used as an alternative to Spearing in the event that he goes off the boil.

The other thing to bear in mind is that when Coyle goes, the new manager and his team will be given a bit of time and it is unlikely that promotion will be the first item on his checklist. Sorting out the sorry state of general management and coaching will be. This will give the new man a chance to assess whether further youngsters can be introduced without the pressure which would otherwise be felt. I suspect that Sammy Lee will be the assistant manager/head coach under a new regime.

Defo the 4-5-1 in the way Sam had us set up

.............Lonergan
Ricketts Knight Mills Alonso
....Spearing...Andrews.......
LCY........Eagles..........Petrov
.............Sordell...............

And we'd leave 2 up top when defending corners
