You never even tried his diet??
I didnt realise he was even threatened with the sack, thought he was some kind of god down there in Soton.

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
dont know what the answer is but we would need a real manager not someone with little to no experience , look at what Dave Jones and Steve Bruce are doing.

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
Saw him last night on Sky – as usual, talking a good game. He's tactically sound and was rather nastily jettisoned by Chelsea (so abruptly that you wonder about the motive).mrpiccollo wrote:i still like the idea of ray wilkins
He's never really been a solo manager: he was with Keegan at Fulham and since then has been sidekick to Vialli (Chelsea/Watford), Wise (Millwall), Peter Taylor (England U21) or Scolari/Hiddink/Ancelotti (Chelsea). His only true spell as manager was when he was also still playing, at QPR from Nov 94 to Sep 96: they finished eighth in his first season, sold Les Ferdinand, ailed to replace him and went down. If memory serves, he was sacked not long after our lot won down there, in teal, under Toddy.
Anyway, that's 16 years ago – about the age of some regular posters here, I'm guessing - and that's a long time. I'd suspect his heart wasn't in a return, but he was interviewed for the West Brom job in summer and in the previous transfer window he said on Sky Sports that he would be interested in going back to Loftus Road to replace the sacked Neil Warnock:
"Oh yeah, no question about it. It would be a delight to go back and help them out. It would be an absolute pleasure to go back. I thoroughly enjoyed my stint there before, I enjoyed my time at Chelsea. I think I've probably grown in that field quite a bit over the last couple of years. So it would be very pleasant to take on. If what I'm saying at the moment puts my hat in the ring then yes, that's the case."
...asyouallknow they went for the more established name in Mark Hughes, but obviously he's up for a return to the top flight. Does that mean he'd want to start again in the second tier?

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
Are any of the big names actually asked if they want to start again in the second tier (of one of the best leagues in the world), or does everybody including club chairmans etc just assume that the likes of Hughes/Benitez/Dalglish/Redknapp etc will naturally require the kudos/dosh/Europe-chasing-ambition of the top tier??

I heard him being asked - and he said a pretty indisputable and unmistakeable - NO!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Are any of the big names actually asked if they want to start again in the second tier (of one of the best leagues in the world), or does everybody including club chairmans etc just assume that the likes of Hughes/Benitez/Dalglish/Redknapp etc will naturally require the kudos/dosh/Europe-chasing-ambition of the top tier??

Honestly, I didn't know that. Who asked him? Did he give a reason (ferinstance like a bank account with a pet's name in Switzerland wouldn't be full enough if he took the job)?thebish wrote:I heard him being asked - and he said a pretty indisputable and unmistakeable - NO!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Are any of the big names actually asked if they want to start again in the second tier (of one of the best leagues in the world), or does everybody including club chairmans etc just assume that the likes of Hughes/Benitez/Dalglish/Redknapp etc will naturally require the kudos/dosh/Europe-chasing-ambition of the top tier??

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
My first choice would always be Solskjaer.
After that it's a question for the board if they fancy a gamble (e.g di canio) or someone steady and assured (ala walter smith).

Re: If Coyle gets the sack
he was interviewed on R5 a few weeks ago (might have been the first day of the prem season) - and was asked if he might take a job in the championship - would it be an option for him/Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Honestly, I didn't know that. and he said - no - he had proved that he could work with top clubs and he enjoyed working with top players - he wouldn't want to lower himself to having to work work with "sub-standard players" - he reckoned he had earned the right to manage at a top, club - but only in England and only down south - or - if they ever asked him - the England job. basically - the championship is beneath him.

Redknapp's been rotating on my middle finger since he called Bolton fans "wicked", "evil" and "the worst in football", 17 years ago.

Again, I didn't know that. I'm learning more about this knob today than I've ever known. Thank God he got done for catching that bung... Re: If Coyle gets the sack
Bolton 0-3 West Ham, and Burnden's patience with McFarland (and Todd) snapped. Booing ensued, and Redknapp saw fit to chime in against it – and, pointedly, us: no "I don't see the point in booing" but an attack on our fans, as if West Ham's were angels.

it feels like that - but I remember standing open-mouthed at the Boleyn as Campo was fielded at left back.... (or was it right back? to be honest - it wouldn't have made much difference!!) and we got dicked... (Tevez?)

Stepping down a level for these types is rarely a good career move and in many cases they are most likely loaded enough not to need the hasslethebish wrote:I heard him being asked - and he said a pretty indisputable and unmistakeable - NO!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Are any of the big names actually asked if they want to start again in the second tier (of one of the best leagues in the world), or does everybody including club chairmans etc just assume that the likes of Hughes/Benitez/Dalglish/Redknapp etc will naturally require the kudos/dosh/Europe-chasing-ambition of the top tier??

As said, Wilkins hasn't been a manager in years and has previously stated he doesn't fancy managing outside the top tier as he never played at that level and doesn't think he'd understand players of that ilk (Good job Jose Mourinho never felt the same)
Right now though I'd snatch your arm off for Phil Brown

Why? I like the fella and yes I know he got Hull up but has he done anything since he sat in the centre circle and made a fool of himself?Harry Genshaw wrote:As said, Wilkins hasn't been a manager in years and has previously stated he doesn't fancy managing outside the top tier as he never played at that level and doesn't think he'd understand players of that ilk (Good job Jose Mourinho never felt the same)
