If you'd done away with her when you first thought about it, you'd be out now.
A thought I have on a daily basis. In her card she put "here's to many more years together"

Congratulations and I'm glad you remembered. Next year is a big one though.

Well a 10 yr is tin. A 1 year is paper .... so a tin of soup minus the wrapper seems in order. .... AND a nice surprise too !!

Sounds unnecessarily expensive.

Offer 'that' holiday you know she wants so much.

No, these are only renewed at 25 and 50 years, and then only by... well, never mind.

renewing your vows is free of charge, no? It is in my church, anyway. Even if a church did charge (I don't think the registry office offer this - I may be wrong) - then I would be very surprised if it was expensive.

seems even more pointless than making vows in the first place.

your pedantry is coming to the fore again your holiness. I assume you're bored.

I can't imagine the only cost (or non-cost) is the price of the vows. I'd be a tad susprised if there were no 'on-costs' involved.

You are right, of course. The pair of them could just bum up, chuck a few words around & leave on the #27 to Halliwell, but the likelyhood is that there'd be some shindig involved.

My apologies for the imprecision of my choice of words.

:conf: don't really understand your defensive narkiness young man!!

I have presided at LOTS of renewal of vows services - and in most cases the couple DON'T then go and throw a massive party or jet off to an expensive resort. (the only times they do in my memory is when it is part of summat like a diamond wedding anniversary celebration - when they'd have gone off on a cruise anyway)

nearly all the ones I have done - they have come long on a sunday morning - often just the two of them - sometimes with close family -renewed their vows and then maybe gone off to a restaurant for a quiet meal.

that's my observation anyway - and it's genuine - maybe you move in more glitzy circles??

Why do people feel the need to renew their vows anyway when the original ones only run out when one of you croaks (ideally).

Who was it who did that that routine/joke about marriage, he goes summat like “what was the guy who invented marriage thinking? He was there, with the love of his life, things were great, sex was good, everyone was happy, then one day he thought; ‘you know what, lets make this shit legal! Lets get the law involved” ?? its quality, and a philosophy ive stuck by.

I haven’t a problem with it tbh, each to their own n'that but I don’t really see the point. If she really wanted to, id go along with it for her sake. I think the biggest commitment is having children anyway. but lets not open that christenings can of worms.

on the flip side however, although i do thouroughly enjoy other peoples weddings! and without wedddings, there would be no stag do's!

Today I'm concerned about -

There's a man in my house fitting a new fire and fireplace in the living room. He's not filling me with confidence.

By this evening I should have something like this in place. I'll plait piss underwater if I have!
