in a word - no!

(as it happens I'm fairly sure he didn't have kids - but I'd not be that interested if he did... In the same way I am a Bob Dylan fan - but I'm not interested in his kids or grandkids and I don't know if he has any or if he does how many and what their names are... same with all the Bolton players - did Nat Lofthouse have kids, grand-kids? am I interested in seeing what they look like? nahhhh!)

Genuine question because I'm confused. I'm not that familiar with your particular denomination or it's doctrine but are you saying that Jesus is no more important in your life than Nat Lofthouse or Bob Dylan? And that you wouldn't want to know how he lived his life because it's not relevant? (Okay, 2 questions)

Progeny? :conf:
nor do I see what difference that would make - you'll have to enlighten me!
It's not going to make any difference to my life, and I'm not (as such) bothered about it. But I do find it a fascinating subject as a matter of historical interest. It's like many an historical observation where convention says one thing but careful research can show it is another thing entirely (as for instance in the case of Troy where it was held to be pure myth and then along came Schliemann and turned convention on its head by demonstrating that there was a reality behind the Homeric myths, and the fact that Schliemann's view became the new orthodoxy and that that in its turn was overthrown by even more careful research) That's why it makes a difference (to me anyway).
yeah - I understand the "academic" interest in uncovering new evidence etc...

(not that I am convinced there is any new evidence in this case..)

My "lack if interest" isn't in counterpoint to your interest - but in counterpoint to the christians who froth at the mouth and cry "blasphemy!" and explode in a fit of misplaced apoplexy whenever this kind of stuff hits the media (well - usually channel 5!)

It's very Zen isn't it. In zen the participants (monks, laity) don't give a monkey's about Buddha the person or the concepts that occupy other buddhist traditions (like ahimsa and nirvana).
theBish's mob sound like a Christian version of that, with no regard to heaven, Christ as a person, etc - all pared right down to the bone with just the essentials left.
I quite like that.

Who the heck was Joesph then?? or was it a Ménage à trois?
Seems in the story that way back then there was war, famine, ancient hoodies etc so whats changed if the Son of God really ever did pay us a visit?
People can believe what ever they want to believe, you can even waste centuries doing 'a bish' on the books but look around, nowts changed!

Have a gander not feeling very helpful today :)

Ah so it could have been Mary Mag then? bit of a reputed hottie of her time I believe.
Never knock anyone for what they believe in religion but I wish they would keep it amongst fellow believers and stop trying to run the whole dammed world because they believe it should be run 'their way'!
I wanna go to Asda at 11 pm on a Sunday and they are prepared to be open, so be it. Churchs are not hard to spot so if I wanna go I'll go if not I won't and dont get me started on Jeovo's, they are like unsolisited phone calls from India telling you about the accident you never had!

Could have been another hottie entirely called Mary, I don't think it gives her much of a description apart from being the wife of Jesus.

And tell me, Mr. Hoboh what do you think of Jeovos?
If you want my opinion: they are like unsolicited phone calls from India telling you about the accident you never had and as they stand on the doorstep spouting bollocks about the literal truth of the Bible and sin and other shit I'm thinking nasty thoughts about what I'd personally like to do to the nice person who's spouting the bollox if only the law would allow me, but instead I just reply something along the lines of I believe you believe that only ten thousand souls are allowed into heaven but do you know there are at least eleven thousand of you Jeovos roaming about the countryside right now spouting the same bollocks so what you going to do about that before I slam shut the door in their faces.

J.W's. Standard procedure: Open door, smile and raise hand. "Good morning, yes I believe in God and pray every night. I always deal direct with head office". Smile, accept leaflet and bid them good day. Drop leaflet in recycle bin and everyone's happy. Simple.

Not answering for thebish, he'll do that himself, but my view is: Nat and Bob Dylan, short term priorities. Jesus, long-term. Bit like individual football matches, each important at the time, but it's where you are at season end that really matters. Religion is all about individual choice. You can use the instruction books and listen to the teachers, or go the Frank Sinatra route. Just don't complain at the end of it all if you got it wrong.

Hardly. your lot recruit babies not yet off the tit. then send em to schools full of idolatrous paraphernalia. teach em doctrine every Sunday. Send em to confess sins like masturbation (is that still a sin, these days?), marry them off in church, forbid them contraception... Do your best to restrict their 'choice' through all the formative years and after dewath if you're right...

It is, though, better than when you burned heretics at the stake for exercising their 'choice' I'll give you that...
