There's a science to it?

Other than, 'this bloke did a cracking job getting an unfancied small club promoted, is within our price range, has a good reputation and is the fans' first choice'?

I'm just not convinced there is any science you could employ that would help you find a football manager, that is any more likely to be successful than what the club do as it is.....

Perhaps there is.

But I'm far from convinced. Fact is there may be nobody remotely near ideal out there who is interested. Even if you extend the net round the globe. So it could well be that you have to make a non ideal appointment, one way or another.

Do you not think those are good enough reasons for us to hire somebody?

I remember a poll was done on here and about 85% wanted Coyle as the next boss after Megson..

Granted we were wrong in hindsight, but had the club overlooked Coyle for a McCarthy type, there'd have been absolute uproar.

And that is why I said that a new manager is likely to be another stop-gap.

The only type of business where the 'customers' dictate the appointment of staff?

No, I don't they are good enough reasons on their own. Management by committee where the supporters make up part of the committee is never likely to be successful. I seem to remember that in his early days as manager the fans were unhappy with Allardyce.

However, I don't think the board really set out a clear set of appointment criteria, hence the multiple failures. Clarity in the thought processes would be helpful and better communication of that to the supporters may nip protest in the bud if everyone was clear what is planned.

They don't dictate it, no. But it's essential for a club to listen to the views and opinions of it's supporters.

Put it this way..

Hypothetically, if you ran a large(ish) business and 85% of your customers wanted you to implement a specific change ie; a member of the companies management team, would you not adhere or at least listen to their request to keep their continued support?

Yes, any business which wants to retain its existing customer base should listen to their views and opinions. To make a specific change would, however, have to be carefully researched and all the implications thought through. Getting rid, moving sideways or recruiting a replacement would indicate to me (in business terms) that the management team had taken their eye off the ball and they were all feckin incompetent as it should all have been monitored before it came to that point.

Anyway, I'm off to have a few pints of decent ale in a few minutes so you can all tut, tut about my outlandish views behind my back. I won't care and soon I'll be feeling good!

Same old long / clueless hoof ball to the same old (very old) geriatric immobile 'dads army' K Davies - no plan A, plan B or plan C. This cnut Coyle is a fcuking disaster for BWFC - just fcuk off and do ALL the fans a huge favour

If he doesn't resign or get sacked tonight the fans should boycott the Reebok until he goes - these players are very poorly managed & very poorly coached. The club will get the message in an empty stadium, saying that if Coyle stays the stadium will be empty anyway

We will not get promoted with Coyle and his very amateur (scottish 2nd div standard) coaches....

I think I read something similar about 12 months ago. Personaly, I wanted him out last October. We all watched the slow motion slide into the chumpionship, so it's not like the the alarm bells can't be heard, it's just the board are ignoring them. He can't keep his job much longer, any other job in football and he'd be gone by now. It's only time, I hope the board act sooner rather than later, or it'll be far too late to catch up.

I'm glad I now know precisely how shit he is. Saw the results from the Scottish third on the tele on the concourse at half time today. Glad to know that's above his level.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think he's shite too, but even when you're right you talk bollocks! Boycott out!

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I pray we find a George Graham somewhere because thats what we feckin' well need right now!! The situation with the great pretender is such a fookin' joke I really cannot get wound up about it.
One thing I will say is Garty is no fookin' good as a chairman and events prove he DID get lucky with BSA, he has to go if he dont then Eddie must be on crack :hang:
