Indeed TANGO. Sail Away was very popular here and received plenty of air play on all sorts of radio stations. It seems that she broke down temporarily the 'musical genre' syndrome that infests many broadcasters. Whilst her productions are/were highly synthesised and multi-tracked within an inch of their lives I enjoy her work.TANGODANCER wrote:Orinoco Flow and all that. Maire (sp?) Brennan's sister from the family band Clannad. Went single and made some decent stuff. Haven't heard of her in a while.
A quick Internet search informs me that she still writes/composes but of her later works I know nothing.

Too well I'm afraid. 16 years ago, we chose Enya as our main (correction, only) form of pain relief during Mrs H's 12 hour labour which lead to the birth of our first son whilst we were living in Holland. The Dutch weren't into any pain relief of any kind at the time. We had a C90 tape of Enya on repeat for the entire duration.
I can't listen to Enya without it bringing back some pretty strong emotions.
The music's also left a mental scar on Mrs H. Not surprising really, when you think she gave birth to a 10.5 lb sprog with Enya playing in the background as the only form of pain relief!! Ouch.

Hope is what keeps us going.

Pretty much the whole Frank Zappa catalogue (not including any post-humous releases) has been put on Spotify. Listening to the few I don't own, and seeing how different these re-mastered versions they've just released are.

If you hear me humming "sail away, sail away, sail away" next time I'm near her do stop me.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
I remember my guitar teacher often telling me that the angry punters at the gig where Dylan famously went electric, weren't upset because of that, but simply because they were really shit. He talked a lot of nonsense though, and was a little bit racist.BWFC_Insane wrote:Bloody hippy.....Hoboh wrote:I'm into pre-electric Dylan as well

At the Free Trade Hall .... my brother was one of those who was convinced Zimmerman had sold his soul !
He couldn't accept that the times were a-changing.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
That brought back a memory, Beefheart, that hadn't surfaced for many a year. I popped in to see a customer with a computer problem one fine spring day and, on parking my car in front of her house, even with the windows wound up I could hear the music vibrating my dashboard. She must have had her sound system turned up to its maximum. Heaven only knows what her neighbours thought of it.Beefheart wrote:My favourite (pretty much the only one I know) Enya song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OvYaHtr1DI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: What are you playing tonight?
Listening to 'Clutching at Straws' by Marillion, never heard of them. Just saw it in my dad's cd collection and was mildly intrigued. There was a receipt in the booklet, apparently he bought it from Woolworth's for £11.99 on 20th December 1989.
Edit: 2 tracks in, had enough. What were you people who were alive during the 80's thinking? Silly decade.

So .... you won't be into the proper era Genesis era. Try 'Trick of the Tail' if you're feeling brave.Beefheart wrote:Listening to 'Clutching at Straws' by Marillion, never heard of them. Me ? I was busy trying to scheme up a way to snap Our Kid's Marillion album in half that'd make it look like an accident.Beefheart wrote:What were you people who were alive during the 80's thinking? Silly decade.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
Saw marillion at the Gallery in M/chester years ago, in front of about 30 people. About a month later they were playing to a sell out crowd at the Apollo. Used to like 'em, but now only a couple of tacks. And not Kayleigh. It's shit

Tenuous link alert!!!
Mrs H's cousin is best mates with Fish (the lead singer of Marillion for the uneducated out there). If memory serves me right, they met at a battle re-enactment a few years ago and for some reason "hit it off".
