Walking back to office from shops. Puddle at side of road. Car passing at speed. Sploosh. Invective, lots of it.
That's not a leopard!

In the last two days the new project manager has:

- told us he wants to dump his workload on us
- told us to dump two features for the forthcoming issue, despite them already being agreed with his boss and the previous PM
- After spending the last two days frantically working on new briefs for features (which we were supposed to be commissioning today), tells us that actually the other two had been agreed (oh you dont say!) so they should come back in
- Asked me to bulletise an email for him that I sent to him detailing said features. Each sentence is already a separate paragraph.

Did he actually use the word "bulletise" ?

Coz, & it's not that well known a by-law, but you're allowed to remove his kidneys for saying that, provided there's a 'y' in the day of the week.

There is only one thing to do when you have an incompetent boss. Do exactly what he asks you to do even if you know it is wrong. Make sure you cover your own ass when the brown stuff hits the fan but give him enough rope and he is almost certain to hang himself.

The beauty of network e-mailing against "delegators". Get an instruction, send an e-mail back to the person giving it:
"Can I just run that one by you again just to clarify " copy the M.D in and print a copy off. Sorted. Might not make you popular, but at least they'll think twice about dumping their work on you. Every decent sized office has at least one person who can manage to look exceedingy busy whilst actually doing fxxk all.

Is that not what you're supposed to do?

I find covering your desk in mountains of random bits of paper does the trick.

New PM sent around a nice email that we all got into this morning, saying how he was looking forward for the copies coming out in the paper today and on the website, and how excited he is by it all and praising how hard we worked etc etc.

Sadly, the mag came out yesterday.

Honestly, I'm surprised he made it out of the fecking womb.

Nah he wasn't. He just got days mixed up.

It's early on and I'm quite negative about it but we'll see. It's just sad that the previous one who's going, someone who actually understood what needed to be done and how to maximise resources majorly pissing people off, is being replaced by someone who looks like he was born to do powerpoint presentations.

Verbal, I have an acquaintance (sometime employer, business associate etc etc) in my trade who is particularly susceptible to snake oil salesmen. Many a call or meeting has descended into me telling him he's f*cking stupid, usually when, inevitably sooner or later, he starts a sentence with "Have you seen this, there was this really good salesman from x came by......" His most recent, and my most favourite, is the new employee he has, who is the greatest living hotelier known to man (no, I've not heard of him either) who, and this is the brilliant part, explained away his 9 months previous unemployment as "taking a rest from the gruelling 5-star schedule" .

So you may want to contend yourself with the the thought that 66% of the population are either too stupid or too disinterested to notice sociopathic, nihilistic behaviour. Steel yourself for a lifetime of having to deal with people born to do powerpoint presentations*. It'll be easier that way. Sorry.

*Actually, being by trade a chef gives one a certain "get out of jail free card" when cornered for management meetings. After all, I have actual work to do, and so have no need to invent ways to fill the day.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
