What are you eating and drinking tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

I'm in Manchester too. No fancy dining though, I'm massively craving the salt and pepper ribs they do at the White Lion just off Deansgate. They're gorgeous, and, with chips (you can have salt and pepper chips too), less than a fiver.

Bloody hell, that's tempting. No firm decision as of yet, but another option. Keep meaning to try Barburitto. Anyone eaten there?

We've had it booked for weeks but at the last minute, late yesterday, needed to add an extra person, which Jamies couldn't accommodate as they are 'over booked.' A call to Alberts and they could fit us in at 5pm but not 6 so the extra person has dropped out and we stick with the original plan. The restaurant business is booming in Manchester!
Is booking required at Albert's for lunch? Cheap deal 12-4pm at a decent place, so i'm now thinking it might be necessary.
Beautiful day like today they'll have tables outside, BP. They're always first-come-first-served, but even if you have to wait it's no hardship having a drink by the canal whilst you wait for one. Have a good afternoon. Can someone remind me again why I decided to go to the match?!
Are you not thinking of Dukes 92? Dukes is the one with the tables outside and on the balcony. Alberts is the posh nosh inside at the end of the same block.

One of my favourite Manchester pubs. Loads of atmosphere and great beer!

I known my Albert's from my Dukes 92 thanks, Clapton ;). Trust me, Albert's put tables outside on nice days.

In fact - this fro their site;

We do not take reservations for our outside seating area – these tables are strictly on a first come, first served basis. Although we will always do our best to accommodate your requests, specific table requests can never be guaranteed.

Barburitto is pretty good as far as that kind of chain place goes. Infinitely better than the vile Taco Bell; however, if you go for it over the salt and pepper ribs, you're making an awful mistake!

The Lion? I went for the first time just before Christmas last year, it was fantastic. A DJ playing loads of old records, the salt and pepper ribs, and plenty of beer. It was absolutely RAMMED though, like had to go outside through one door and back in through the other to get to the Gents. Only problem was we got so wasted we couldn't remember what it was called or where it was! We got there in the end though.

After that I'll be wandering around the likes of the Briton's Protection, Pevrill of the Peak, Circus Tavern and more looking for material for the Ale Thread. Self-sacrificial journamalism. Any more pub ideas? Not going if they have a telly. Avoiding football today.

Barburitto is one for another day methinks. Will decide where to eat once we've had a wander and seen where we are when we feel hungry, or thirsty. Priority is a new kettle though. My whole world is on hold until one is purchased. Boiling water in a pan for a brew. :hang: How very common.

Started off in the White Lion. Feckin dead with no sign of any salt and pepper ribs. :( Quick pint of Landlord and left

Down the road to Albert's Shed and bloody hell, what a treat! We both had the the Chicken, Lime and Peanut salad to start which we both loved and Mrs BP decided it was a dish that she would try to recreate at home. Looking forward to that one!

Had the fish dish of the day for my main, pan fried Hake, with new potatoes, green beans and parsley sauce. Never tried Hake before, but will certainly be having it again. Literally melt in the mouth. Mrs BP had the steak and frites with peppercorn sauce, which I tried and was bloody delicious. £34 all in with a glass of wine and a couple of beers. Will definitely go again.

So, what have I here then?! Pepper and chickpea couscous, mixed leaves, strips of spicy chicken (with a small glug of Peri Peri sauce), smoked ham, pepperoni, feta, mixed olives, stuffed vine leaves and a spoonful of coleslaw. On a side plate - free range chicken liver pate on bruchettines.

What a splendid evening in, especially on the back of the football. And I've not been able to say that for quite a while. 8)

What time were you in BP? I got there about two, asked the barman if they still did the ribs and he said not till later. Turns out they only do the chinese stuff from about half three. I'd been craving them for weeks so we had a garlic bread and waited. They were worth it. Price has gone up (now a full £7 for salt and pepper ribs and chips) but they were beautiful.

It was very quiet though. Disappointing given the whole world seemed to be in manc today!

We saw the last couple of minutes of the Everton game before they switched the satellite to Chelsea, so by the time we'd supped up it must have been just before 3pm. We assumed that the Chinese menu kicked in during the evening. Presumably you were one of the few sat outside. We sat inside as Mrs BP was cold despite having a coat on all day! I'm guessing you weren't the bloke sat under the big screen who wanted the jerk chicken, but said he didn't want the peas in the rice and peas, so asked if he could half rice and half chips.

Don't think i've ever seen Manchester as packed as it was yesterday. Bloody heaving everywhere. Full of gormless feckers stopping right in front of you and blocking the way. :whack:

What's the nosebag like in The Oxnoble? Anyone eaten there? I've only ever been in for a pint but the scran that they fetch out looks (and smells) pretty darn good.

I was in then. Walked in with about 15 to go of the Everton game. Sat outside for a while whilst it was sunny, then came in and saw most of the first half of Chelsea sat next on the table next to that guy. I didn't notice he had half rice half chips! His looked pretty good but it was nothing on the ribs!

We sat a couple of tables down from him near the door. Just had the one pint and buggered off. The lack of customers and bland menu did for us, though the specials board looked quite good. I'm a bit dubious when nobody else is eating in a place. There's an Indian a few doors down that looked quite nice, Bollywood?? Looked at the menu and saw that they do burgers etc as well as curry and decided it wasn't for me. That was dead too.

Jamies was heaving with people! We were up on the balcony and after a slight mistake where they gave us a table for four when there were five of us we settled down to some really tasty food. Starters of nacho's, brushcetta and olives and then the special pork for main. One of the group had the black angel spaghetti, which he thought perfect. Salted caramel ice cream and coffee followed. Three cousins who do not see enough of each other. Great evening! Been here three times now and each waitress has had a pierced tongue. Think it must be compulsory!

It got busier later on. From what I could gather they have the normal menu they do, and then basically a Chinese couple run a takeaway out of their kitchen and do meals for eating there too. It's an odd arrangement, but a belting one. I'm sorry I sent you there on a fool's errand, I didn't realise the Chinese was only later on. Having waited myself, I can tell you the recco still stands though! Something ace about eating Chinese food in a pub, with a proper beer, watching football!

I saw that Indian, it was called Bollywood yeah. I walked past it to go and get some smokes and I thought it was shut! Ludicrously quiet in that corner of Manchester given further up Deansgate was chocker. I shuddered when I walked past the Arndale. Poor bastards being dragged around there.

No worries, mate. Thought it was easier as the missus feet were killing her and wasn't exactly sure where Albert's Shed was. Turns out it's only another 5 minutes walk. Will definitely give the White Lion a go, when the red shite aren't playing. Maybe that's why it was so quiet?

Just had the best "cure all ills" tonic going. Fried egg and bacon on toast and a large mug of tea, after reading the paper reviews of a Bolton win. Don't get much better than that. :D

Barburrito is tremendous, but not for a proper sit down job - more akin to Subway or summat, aimed at the lunchtime market mainly.
