Re: Today I'm happy about......
One of the most stupendous moments of my life was when as a schoolkid, standing in a queue for dinner, just picking away at my ear, my fingernail lifted (with what sounded to me like a tearing sound) (and a brief but sharp stab of pain) the largest lump of wax from my earhole that I've ever seen. The joy of being able to hear again was compounded a billionfold by the fascination of staring at the vastness of the lump of wax on the end of my finger.
That's not a leopard!

As they might say in the US. Woot!
Worthy I've long admired you for you statistical gymnastics and your company pre-Wembley was a pleasure, but you've just almost achieved legend status.

The simple joy, in the days before t'internet, of the front stalls not knowing that the "bomber" lighting rig descended during the gig, and watching a large number of Devils Disciples run for the sides will long stay with me.Gary the Enfield wrote:Worthy4England wrote:No, they can't restore what Motorhead took away on the Bomber Tour.bobo the clown wrote:is everyone shouting now ??Worthy4England wrote:Ear wax.

As will the the 100 or so mods heading across Piccadilly Gardens as they'd spotted a "smelly" (me) legging it up London Road for the last bus...I promptly about turned and ran 'em all back into the DD's, who needed a way to restore their dented pride.
The Apollo being a fairly small place by modern standards, made the music sound like it was turned up to 11.

Went to plenty of gigs that year...towards the end of the year, I was able to hear some of them.

Did you ever get into the bikers club that used to be on Mawdsley Street in Bolton, Worthy?
I did, once...Floor was strewn with leather jackets and helmets while their owners "danced" in the middle of it. Dance seemed to be jumping up in the air and charging at each other while the plaster flaked off the walls to noise from two MFI wardrobe size speakers.

Interesting, Worthy. Do you jest? The reason I ask is that I have this condition whereby, according to the specialist, through the virtues of redhhoculously loud gigs, rave clubs etc. I've killed off the cells in my ears that deal with mid-range frequencies. As such, wherever there's music playing (not necessarily loud) I can't hear what people are saying to me, I just get an inaudible drone and a vibrating sensation in my ears when people try. I find when most people talk to me I wish I'd get an inaudible drone...then I could ignore them more easily.Bruce Rioja wrote:Interesting, Worthy. Do you jest? Similar to this except I hear bass sounds and have trouble with treble. Quite embarrasing as my most repeated word thes days is is "Pardon?". Put it down to working in a timber shop with planers, saws etc going all day long for sixteen years. Got told I have "tinitis" whatever that is?Bruce Rioja wrote:Interesting, Worthy. Do you jest? No, I jest Brucie. I put it down to the purity of Fast Eddie's riffs as opposed to listening to SLF.Bruce Rioja wrote:Interesting, Worthy. Do you jest? Re: Today I'm happy about......
I've had hearing deficiencies for years. I popped in and had my ears tested about 30 years ago and was advised that I have 'classic industrial deafness'. I've never worked in industry and the only noisy environment was the bank branch situated next door to the main Sydney City fire station (and that was loud at times.) I too have tinnitus; in my case it affects both ears and presents itself as a very high pitched 'whistle'. During the day with normal noise around it's not all that noticeable but at night time it can be somewhat of a nuisance as it never stops, although at times it does seem to vary in intensity.TANGODANCER wrote:Similar to this except I hear bass sounds and have trouble with treble. For those who have trouble hearing conversation in even mildly noisy environments I sympathise. I got sick of TANGO's constant 'pardons' and 'excuse mes' and took advantage of a program initiated by the Federal Government which will provide free of charge hearing aids to those who ask for them. I trotted down to one of the accredited organisations in Penrith - only about a 15 minute drive - and signed up. They were/are a revelation! OK, they're not the latest and greatest - meaning that they are the cheap versions - but they work well and people don't notice you're wearing them.
If the NHS offers such an option then I recommend strongly that those with hearing problems put aside your pride, manhood and doubts and check it out.

For a pedant that's a poor mistake Bish!
MAths teachers around the world get twitchy and red faced before squeaking that drawing a circle requires a pair of compasses

The roads lack logic and have the craziest spaghetti junctions going. Miss your turn off and it is often a 40km round trip to get back to the right junction! A compass would not help someone as directionally challenged as IWorthy4England wrote:N, E, S, W....It's all bloody sand...How does this help?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Discovered today that the navigation bit of Google Maps now works here, I might now get a bit less lost as I have a crap sense of direction
