I'm trying an on-offer (Sainsbury) bottle of Albarino from Galicia in the mountainous and rainy far North west of Spain... It's tremendous... On sale at M & S for £11.99, this is a bargain at £7.99.

I'm thinking of doing a roasted asparagus soup to dispose of some neglected asparagus in the fridge...

Two more days and I retire...

Bruce just mentioned a Moroccan Tagine in another thread so I thought I'd give a shout out for my favourite cooking sauce company. One of their products is a Tagine sauce. The curry sauces are great for a quick curry. Not too keen on the naan breads though.

Anyway, heres a challenge for you all. Whilst in Madrid recently I had crispy fried pigs ears with garlic and parsley, and proper homemade black pudding (without the filler and fat, so basically like black scrambled eggs.) Anyone know of anywhere (other than St John in that there bloodyfckingLondon) that would do this type of food. In "the provinces"? In the NW would be even better.

Morcilla is the spanish word for their black pudding, and should be available from any good authentic spanish tapas place. Same with pigs ear (as long as they cook it properly, and dont make a....etc etc of it) - although i've only ever had pigs cheek, in spain, which was delicious...just tasted like a sweet braising steak.

i doubt anywhere bar a well-known michelin place would dare offer something like that then, its easier for a swanky place to convice the masses that something so base and gory is actually a delicacy than your average eatery...like you say, a butcher might be best.

Morcilla de Burgos contains rice, however other Spanish morcillas do not - according to that there internet. The stuff from Asturias definitely doesn't and I've had some from just north of Madrid that didn't either.

In Albacete and La Mancha, the morcilla is filled with onions instead of rice, which completely changes the texture. In Extremadura the creamy morcilla patatera includes roughly mashed potatoes. In the northern regions and the Canary Islands there is a sweet variety known as morcilla dulce. Other varieties introduce breadcrumbs, pine nuts, almonds and vary the proportions of the other ingredients or flavorings, some of them considered delicacies.

Goes nice if you throw some scallops on top of all that too. They always say mustard and picallili are traditional accompaniements..

A little more left field bruce, spicy (not sweet though) chilli based sauces also go well with pudding. And you could try slicing them and then depp frying them in beer batter with some mushy peas as an alternative to the chippy... makes a lovely fritter.
