Probably a Coyle thing. Same with Boggers banging it up every time he gets it.

That's known as the "early-ball" that people like Walker and Super John loved so much.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:one more thing.
why doesn't Petrov EVER take a touch, drop his shoulder and go past someone?
isn't that sort of in the job description for a winger?
he reminds me of that poor mans subbuteo game when i was a kid (Striker?). push the head down and kick it .
he's got dream of a left peg but he crosses it in way too early- even if we had natural strikers they'd be struggling to get on the end

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
It's a localised thing but the abuse got pretty nasty in the block I was in. In earshot of the players too. I feel like once you go down this road there is no way back for the manager. We're just delaying the inevitable now.Harry Genshaw wrote:I missed it yesterday so Mrs G took a mate instead. She goes to about half a dozen games a year but she said she'd never known an atmosphere like it. That it was really flat and really quiet until we went a goal behind. Mrs G reckoned it was getting a bit nasty where we sit (corner of North & West lower) but there are 1 or 2 really gobby gits here who cant wait to jump on the teams back.
Is this a general malaise in all seater stadiums or is it due to a large proportion of our fans knowing us as nothing other than a Premier league side?

Go on then. What exactly did he do wrong? I'm getting a bit sick of hearing Mears fielding shit just because he's Coyle's man. I take it you didn't see Phil Brown or Joey O'Brien play right back for us?ChrisC wrote:

It was the same when Nicky Hunt was playing, the same when Steinsson, Barness, N'Gotty, Campo, J O'Brien, etc. was playing there.
What I would say is none of them compare to Djibril Diawara.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
It was depressing yesterday, that's for sure.
There's no way we deserved the defeat, but when there are no goals in the side - and it looks like there aren't - we will get toasted again and again by sides not as good as ours.
Coyle blaming the ref is a total joke.
Warnock MotM in my view.
The atmosphere was sterile rather than hostile - we are nowhere remotely near the levels of toxicity that we had under Megson. Then it was personal - since Megson had the grace to attack the fans in the media repeatedly.
Coyle's future dangles by a thread, I feel. If October turns bad he'll be away.

Oh I don't know, perhaps the moment when, completely unchallenged, he fell over the ball or maybe that he makes KD look like Usain Bolt.Bruce Rioja wrote:Go on then. What exactly did he do wrong? So you remember that, but not that he then picked himself up, went round heir left back and whipped in a cross that no-one looked to attack? Fair enough!Wandering Willy wrote: Oh I don't know, perhaps the moment when, completely unchallenged, he fell over the ball

I don't think Mears is as good as Steinsson, but he's ok. Not a disaster. I'd like him to get forwards more as I think when he attacks the opposition he looks a better player.

Mears did nowt wrong yesterday apart from being hugely infuriating at how long it takes for him to decide to push forward, especially when we're often lacking options out wide.

Which was a nice peice of play .... after the crazy-capers bit .... & he also received 2 of Boggers throw-outs & made his way up the wing. Only 2 crosses were all that much good, but those 2 WERE good.Bruce Rioja wrote:So you remember that, but not that he then picked himself up, went round heir left back and whipped in a cross that no-one looked to attack? Noticed him out of puff when coming back after those ... an example of him not being as fit as maybe you'd expect.
He wasn't/isn't a disaster ... nor is he especially good. I'd rather have Ricketts there though.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
He's painfully slow and unfit. Did put a couple of decent crosses in yesterday but worth noting he oftentimes had acres of space in front of him but needed crowd encouragement to both look for the ball (from Boggers) and advance forward. Contrast that with the eagerness and speed of Warnock on the other side, A decent full back would have had a field day yesterday against that Palace left side.
Poor player for me. Opinions and arseholes I suppose.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
By the way ... I saw the video of the referee's appalling decision to award a penalty against us.
& it was a CORRECT appalling decision. What the feck was Coyle on about ?
I've not seen the one we may have got, the handball ... anyone have any views on it.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
Well, it was a one man team versus a no-man team and the one man team won. Zaha tore us apart, as simple as that. It's the same shit with anyone with a bit of talent, the defence backs off and backs off, and it either leads to a penalty or a goal. It happened numerous times last season against Premier League opposition and the one time we come up against a Premier League class player it happens again.
Warnock put in a great performance, the exact reason I've wanted him at this club for years and the exact reason why Alonso should never get near the team while Warnock is here.
Keith Andrews is fecking terrible, he's easily the worst player we've got at the club. Usually when we've signed shit players before they've had at least one decent attribute (i.e. Ngog is shocking but is alright at holding up the ball) but Andrews has no good attributes at all. He can't pass, he can't tackle, he's slow, I could go on.
Leeds are going to tear us apart on Tuesday.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
I haven't seen a replay but it looked like a definite pen at the time. As did ours in the first half tbh. Mears is shite, but was all right, though still too timid on the ball. Looked good when he got forward, but with all that space in front he didn't enough for me. Far from the worst though. We were pish though. Just inept. And the crowd were so, so flat.
On another note, really don't get the fuss about Zaha. FIFA skillz. He's got all the attributes but he needs a manager to give him a right kick up the arse. Me, me, me. I couldn't believe he shot when they had two completely unmarked in the box. 10 months younger, and about a third of the player Tom Ince is, anyway.

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
Very good commentary... I must go away for a long weekend abroad more often (although my phone won't allow me to post anything as it thinks I'm under-18 and I haven't worked out how to tell it that I'm not). I especially enjoyed pages 11-14 when trying to get to sleep in the Pyrenees.
So can I sum it up, and then tell me what I've got wrong:
We played 4-4-2
It didn't work.
N'gog was a horse that couldn't score.
SKD was a knackered old horse that couldn't pass.
Sordell was brought on for the wrong person, too late, still playing the wrong system.
We are still crap in defence.
Our midfield is a leaky sieve and has no penetration.
Coyle thinks referees don't know how to ref properly.
We have the best squad in the division, odds on certainties to get promotion and are three points off the drop-zone.

Sorry if this has already been posted but I cannot understand this comment from Coyle.
“We will stay resilient. We will stay focused and as much as it is horrible to lose games, we did enough to get the three points."
How can he think we did enough to get the three points when we didnt even score a goal, at the very least we only did enough to draw the game!!

Re: Bolton vs Crystal Palace
Our defence, and our midfield, look shaky and nervous every time somebody runs at them. Only one of our wingers has the confidence to go round a man (Eagles). Our full backs (bar Warnock) look scared to go past half way. Our strikers look toothless. These are all issues that can, and should, be sorted in training. They aren't being sorted. That's why he has to go.
