A long weekend has just ended. For the Monday my wife organised my children for a 'working bee'. Apparently it was an early birthday present. I say early as her birthday is in mid-November. My son brought his chain saw and a high water pressure cleaner - my son-in-law a petrol engined edge/brush cutter along with my daughter, granddaughter and a couple of brooms. What they did with those powered machines in the space of about four hours (with a break for luncheon) would have taken me weeks to do manually.

So we are both rather chuffed today.

Beginning to see some truly spectacular colours coming through on some of the trees. Almost momiji/New England spectacular. Very very colourful for England anyway.

Just bought tickets to see Stewart Francis at King George's Hall in 2 weeks - 2 tickets for the price of one, a bargain night out for 18 quid and I happen to think he's immensely funny

Finally, after five days hunting, managed to secure a holiday cottage after our previous booking fell through.


Now that (Monty) is a COTTAGE; not a shed.

Over here we have a provincial pension plan plus federal old age security. The Feds claw back OAS if you make over a certain sum so I never applied when I turned 65. Now I'm retired and not earning so much, I applied. They were a bit upset I did not apply before my 65th birthday. I had to provide an explanation and all kinds of documents last June. I called them at the end of August and they said they were working on it, but there were delays. Finally today I got 20 months worth of OAS dumped into my bank account so I'm happy. I might not be once I work out the tax implications over two tax years (2010 and 2011).
