Probably a bit harsh..
EDIT.
In his full seasons at Blackburn Hughes' team finished....
6th in the premiership, qualified for the UEFA cup.
10th in the premiership
7th in the premiership
At Fulham
8th in the premiership
Clubs analagous to ourselves.
Perhaps you could point out, the evidence to suggest Owen Coyle is a better manager?
He's at QPR now.
Now.
As in now.
Otherwise we might awell get Peter Reid if we're putting up the best they've ever done.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

We all see it, so why doesn't Gartside/Davies?

I don't get your point? QPR who finished above us and relegated us last season?Lord Kangana wrote:Are you being f*cking serious?BWFC_Insane wrote:Jeesus christ. Do managerial records only count when its someone you want to debunk?
Hughes has never yet, relegated a team.
That record at similar clubs is very relevant to ourselves. He has a lot more on his CV than Owen Coyle.

He's young, give him time.
And with that criteria, and much more realistically, we'll get Dave Jones when Wednesday bin him off.

Here we goooooooooooooooooo
Its a simple enough discussion
And it isn't, 'is Owen Coyle more or less shit than X'
The question is, is he an abject fcuking failure

When has Dave Jones taken a smallish club into the top ten of the premiership? Or qualified someone for the UEFA cup?Lord Kangana wrote:He's young, give him time.

And he relegated Wolves.
Hughes' CV is far far more impressive.
Not that we have any chance with Hughes, although we may have done last season!

Indeed. Said this before but it's all about fine margins – a phrase he's used enough, but not the way I mean it. In that first flush he had the three things you need to make a 4-4-2 work: a goalkeeper on fire (Jaaskelainen topping the shots-saved ratio), two midfielders doing the work of three (Holden and Muamba topping the midfielders' tackling tables) and strikers scoring goals - specifically the extraordinary Sturridge. Even then, we weren't bossing things: in that 5-1 game, Newcastle had more possession and made more passes, and the following week we went 2-0 down at home to Blackpool.truewhite15 wrote:He got found out. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Is it time yet?
Coyle may resemble a dead man walking but Millwall away and Bristol at home are very winnable. If those go wrong he'll be gone surely but I suspect we will win both. After that wolves and Boro will hurtle us back to square one. And so I'm afraid it may go on.One wheel in the ditch midtable and totally inconsistent but it might be enough to keep him in the job if the board cant find an alternative they can believe in. Gartside seems to be paralysed. He clearly doesnt want to sack coyle and will give him every chance. There are no outstanding alternatives as the various guess the manager threads clearly show.Could be a long frustrating season but then that's hardly anything new for long time followers!

I'd agree with this. We were only 9 points from safety when Sturridge played his first game for us (iirc already on 30 points)CAPSLOCK wrote:It was Elmander who was keyDave Sutton's barnet wrote:Reminds me of a great Onion headline: Man Who Thought He'd Lost All Hope Loses Last Additional Bit Of Hope He Didn't Even Know He Still HadDartisan wrote:Truth be told I already have no remaining hope

Re: Is it time yet?
So, when will Gartside be telling us this sesson is 'all about consolidation in a tough league'?
Re: Is it time yet?
Of course they see it. The problem is that they, unlike us, die by the sword if things get even worse. If they bring someone in and we get relegated, they get crucified for bringing in the wrong man. Chairmen aren't some sort of alien species that see a situation unfold far later than the average homosapien, I'm sure Gartside sees what we do. He's given the manager his backing to try and give him a confidence boost, he's then public ally warned the manager to improve results. The next step is the sack. He has to give Coyle every chance because he knows how fickle football fans (and sport fans in general) are, and how expensive a change in management is. When there are no more untested avenues, the next step is a change of management.Joggers Nipple wrote:We all see it, so why doesn't Gartside/Davies?
Football fans all to often quickly burn through a club like a raging inferno, starting first with players, then management, then upper hierarchy until something changes. Personally in this case it just needs to stop with the management, because I can appreciate the situation that the chairman and owner find themselves in. Mistakes are financially costly, and there have been a fair few expensive mistakes made at the club.
I'm quite sure that right now they're sounding out potential new managers, so fingers crossed they've built a nice looking short list. Given who's available right now, I wouldn't say no to McCarthy. To be he'd be the best bits of Coyle and Megson rolled into one. Yeah, two previous managerial failures at the club, but few can little with Coyles fixation on our attack and Megsons obsession with playing defensively. McCarthy to me has always given both fair attention.
Just to expand on that, I'm meaning the fact that McCarthy's sides traditionally have been pretty decent defensively, whilst also possessing a threat in attack. I was pretty shocked when he was sacked from the Wolves job, and to my knowledge the Wolves fans weren't calling for his head. We could do a lot worse.

Yeah, for the sake of brevity (ha!) I conflated the post-Sturridge spring run with the fabled November when we were allegedly Brazil 70.CAPSLOCK wrote:It was Elmander who was keyDave Sutton's barnet wrote:Indeed.
