The conclusion was that they did, but his solutions wouldn't work (or that he didn't really offer any - which is more accurate, I think).
First of a series on economics thinkers - Keynes next, Hayek last...
A pretty good start...
They already showed the Keynes and Hayek programmes.

Keynes always made the best buttery biscuit base...

Always a fan of the rap battles they did.Wandering Willy wrote:No Marx was the last.William the White wrote:Watched the BBC2 documentary about Karl Marx and whether his ideas illuminated the current crisis of capitalism...

Rambo: First Blood Part II.
Remember going to the cinema when it first came out, 13 years old, before going on a school trip to France.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I watched Of Gods and Men. Slow movie, French, subtitled (Arabic and French) set in Algeria in the mid 1990s at a time of war between authoritarian, military government and Islamic fundamentalists (who had won an election and been refused government by the army).
In the middle is a pacific Christian monastery a small number of elderly monks, who have cohabited in peace for years with the local people, providing much needed medical help, and finding mutual respect for each other's faiths...
As it gets more and more dangerous, will they stay where they believe god has placed them, or obtain safety back in France?
Based on a true story, despite its stately pace, and sometimes cerebral feel, it is engaging and moving. Beautifully acted.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
It very nearly was filmed in Bolton, this - a location scout came to my house as they wanted to use it for Mrs Biggs' parents' house.CrazyHorse wrote: the final show of that ITV drama-doc about the wife of the train robber; Mrs Biggs. )
However, they eventually chose somewhere with a country village backdrop, I believe it was somewhere in Surrey.
Shame, as my house was much nicer on the inside, and much more 'Dickensian' (even if it is Tudor).

I loved this. It had to be a slow film really, as it would have lost all its atmosphere otherwise.William the White wrote:I watched Of Gods and Men. I thought I'd watched this on your recco! Must have been someone else's, maybe LK's, it being French.William the White wrote:I watched Of Gods and Men. The choral scenes in the chapel are the thing that has stuck with me the must. Really good film though.

British Bake off was really good. No real surprise with the result.
Didn't get to see Two and a Half Men; Mrs Horse isn't keen, I'll maybe see it tonight instead.
Mrs Biggs was really well made & acted which was a pleasant surprise for an ITV drama.
Peppa Pig was a cracker too. Peppa & George had their school sports day. Really thrilling episode and ended on a breathtaking cliffhanger.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
There was a press showing of it yesterday; they reckon it's back to form. I'm always sceptical when folk say stuff like that cos it's usually code for it's a bag of shiteVerbal wrote:It's going to be shite, isn't it?CrazyHorse wrote:
Then tomorrow night...Red Dwarf X.
I'll watch it but I can just tell.

Hope it's ok though cos if it isn't this'll be the last series they ever make.

The thing that was most shocking was Esther Rantzen at the end... and she was his celebrity buddy.
EDIT.. not most shocking, the thing that makes you think the docu is legit.

Just watched We Need To Talk About Kevin.
I don't think I've ever watched a flm in which I've despised a character quite as much, especially when that's masured against feeling so desperately sorry for another.
Very good film - dramatic and disturbing. Tilda Swinton is fecking immense throughout.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
