Would make an interesting case study actually! The folk at the old address are fooked either way.

If, as Bruce suggests, they were left behind the house, for example, then it is probably theft, from the wine company.

If they've taken delivery then they may well be fine, criminally, for the first lot, then after that it is probably theft and certainly fraud by misrepresentation.

If however the terms of the contract with the wine company stated that ownership of the wine passed to Mr and Mrs Mannerheim at a specific point, say delivery of the wine to the old address, then it could also be theft from them instead.

Serious stuff. I'd imagine the wine company will write a strong letter to the people at the old address demanding payment for the wine.

It's possible (though if they have good lawyers, unlikely) they have to give Mr and Mrs M the wine/money back, but I'd imagine they'll get their money back from the folks living there now, so makes sense from a goodwill standpoint to do it.

This is all well and good in theory, but the ladyfriend had some cosmetics accidentaly delivered to an old address a while back. Company didn't give a shit and wasn't going to do anything. At all.

Not sure about the others, but with Naked Wines you pay them £20 a month (direct debit) and top your account up to become an "Angel member".. With the members' £20 quids, they invest them into wine companies to help them meet consumer demand and get the stuff to their warehouse more quickly.. But to make sure it's not one-sided, they guarantee you your money and give you 20% off every marked price on the website.

You can get crates delivered quarterly with the money you have accumalated in your account, or just buy one whenever the feck you want.. I'm sure Bruce will vouch for them. As will me and the missus

I used to use Virgin Wines and they were excellent. I didn't do any direct debits, just ordered what I fancied every month or 2. Eventually they started calling me to suggest stuff based on what I'd been buying. Discovered some new stuff I probably wouldn't have thought to try and usually at really good prices. That was a few years ago, but sounds like the service level has remained the same.

Just tried a bottle of old vine Zin 91-not bad at $8.99 a bottle.

The rose or white Zinfandel as they call it in the States is very plentiful over here as well and is perfect at a summer bbq if you have people over who dont like wine.

Luckily, I suspect, it wasn't 91 vintage. It was an old-fashioned big red Zinfandel of a kind that was very popular when I worked in LA in the early 70"s. If I recall correctly the "91" referred to the 91st birthday of a winemaker.

White Zinfandel (rose to you and me), yes you can buy it here. And its generally shite. Though far be it for me to direct your tastes. Red Zinfandel is a little harder to obtain. Waitrose might have some or Booths.

Agree LK the "white" stuff is dire. Like I mentioned above-perfect for people who don't like wine as it is nothing like wine.

I was referring to the red stuff. It used to be very popular when I was in LA in the 70's and then went out of style, at least the big flavoured stuff. The bottle I tried, Zin91, was a 2010 vintage that was meant to be a throw back to the "old" style and it made me wonder if it was possible to get the Red Zinfandel in the UK.

Had a bottle of Ch. Romanin Les Baux de Provence last night. A dense mesh of rubbish, with about 250ml of sediment in the bottom. If you find yourself looking intriguingly at a bottle any time in the near future, stick to the just looking bit. In my opinion, naturally.

If a third of the bottle was sediment, M'Lord, something was clearly wrong. Could you not take what was left back and complain? Not sure what the year was but prices vary quite a bit.. I don't usual try wines from Provence and have never had this.

It was a gift from a colleague monty. The sediment part seemed to be in line with the sheer density of the wine. It didn't taste off or anything, just way too big, over the top fruit and alcohol. Like it was from a sun-baked vineyard. Which, I suppose, it will be from that area.
