I had a nice roasted half an Aylesury duck for tea, with Boulangere and blackberry jus. Washed it down with a bottle of St Mont. Very passable.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

ok - so it's october - so time to crank out those comfort-food warming lunch root-veg concoctions that I love to do at this time of year...
today..
onion/garlic/ginger/currypaste/chillis - fried into awesomeness..
then - whacked in sweet potato, parsnips, carrots, swede, french beans, split peas with some veg stock and an afterthought sprinkle of garam massala... half a bag of spinach at the end...
is just about done now - will serve with some crusty bread...
it's what autumn is made for..
(could be a windy night)

Yep. Shirley this is a "Darwin" moment ?thebish wrote:I have now decided against my plan to drink a range of liquid nitrogen cocktails with my hobnobs before retiring to bed...
If people are that f'king stupid then maybe society can survive without them .... & preferably before they inflict their genetically challenged offspring upon us.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
went out for dinner tonight with friends - and they had one of those picky starters (very tasty) - some of that posh bread with dips and bits...
anyway - one of the bits was a bowl of pickled garlic cloves - whole pickled garlic cloves... (I thought they were some kind of marinaded butter bean concoction..)
apparently you can buy a jarful in asda... very nice too...
I think I might have had about 10..
combined with the root-veg-chilli-curry-winter-warmer I had for lunch - it could be a windy and (indeed) pungent night!!

Another "Darwin moment" I think.Man dies after cockroach-eating competitionRoaches are not known to be unsafe to eat The winner of a cockroach-eating competition died shortly after eating dozens of the live insects and worms in Florida, authorities have said.
Edward Archbold, 32, became ill and collapsed at a pet shop where the contest took place in the city of Deerfield Beach on Friday.
About 30 others competed in the event at the Ben Siegel Reptile Store.
Officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine Mr Archbold's cause of death.
'Unorthodox contest'
None of the other contestants became ill afterwards, the sheriff's office said.
"We feel terribly awful," said Ben Siegel, the owner of the shop.
"He looked like he just wanted to show off and was very nice," he said, adding that Mr Archbold did not appear to be ill before the competition.
A lawyer for Mr Siegel said all the contestants had signed disclaimers "accepting responsibility for their participation in this unique and unorthodox contest".
The grand prize for the winner was a python, and Mr Archbold had planned to sell the snake to a friend who took him to the contest, according to the shop owner.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Schoolboy error. You should always wash cockroaches down with liquid nitrogen!
