It did, And you can watch it on Youtube if you are that way inclined. I'm not going to post it here.Harry Genshaw wrote:H. Pedersen wrote:Well, I guess I wouldn't have shoved a knife up Gaddafi's rear so it would have been a little different.Did that really happen to him? Feck!

I'm all for a good dictator lynching but that's going too far.

I've seen the way they murdered him. They are just as bad as he (Supposedly) was. It's quite horrific.H. Pedersen wrote:I'm all for a good dictator lynching but that's going too far.

Ceaușescu had a trial (basically a show trial) but nonetheless a trial. Gaddafi was (probably) murdered. I do tend to condemn those who murder, assassinate or otherwise kill political opponents without any sort of trial or opportunity to offer a defence. I should note I am generally opposed to the death penalty in any case. I don't like indignities being offered to dead bodies either, which happened to Il Duce and those with him. I may be in a minority here though.H. Pedersen wrote:I find it hard to condemn people who have been brutally opressed for taking revenge on their opressors. I sort of doubt I would have done anything differently if I was in the position of Ceaușescu's firign squad or Gaddafi's executioners.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Mussolini, his mistress and some 15 members of his cabinet were summarily executed by Italian communist partisans 24 hours after their capture with no trial. Their bodies were treated disgracefully. This does not mean Mussolini would not have been tried for war crimes by the International Military Tribunal or that he would not have been found guilty. We'll never know because he was essentially murdered - in itself a war crime.
Well, I guess I wouldn't have shoved a knife up Gaddafi's rear so it would have been a little different.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I'm against murderous mobs of all kinds and all motivations, but that's veering wildly off topic. Di Canio almost certainly isn't a Nazi (if you search 'Paolo Di Canio swastika tattoo' on Google the first result is from this board), but he almost certainly does have a screw loose. I thought Coyle lost his mind when things started going badly, I dread to think what would happen with Paolo.
I think Mick gets a rough deal. If I had to bet money on a manager to come in and get us up this season (as Eddie Davies essentially is), he'd be fairly high up on the list. I wouldn't be unhappy with him at all.

Fair enough, but I'll reserve judgement until I've lived under a brutal dictator for decades and then am presented the opportunity to blow his head off.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Ceaușescu had a trial (basically a show trial) but nonetheless a trial. What in Mick McCarthy's recent record, beyond "well he's from yorkshire and a bit dour and I reckontherefore that he'll be good at organising a defence" actully marks him out as anything other than another Lee/Megson/Coyle?
I'm completely underwhelmed by the candidate list offered so far, and don't see any opportunity for a significant change of direction or inspiration. I see significant further costs, however.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I’d be interested in Solskjaer. He’s done well in Norway, and while that’s not the highest level of football, it shows he’s got at least a basic understanding of how to set his team up.
The main thing is that he’s not part of the rotating cast of good old boys from the Football League. Guys like McCarthy know they will never be Wenger or Mourinho, but they will always get a job somewhere – be it coaching or punditry – no matter how badly they wash out. That doesn’t strike me as a recipe for success. Solskjaer probably still has dreams of succeeding Sir Alex . . . and a fear of failing.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
If theres someone with the ambition of managing Utd and the drive, determination and wherewithall to succeed, then I'm more than happy that our club would be used as a stepping stone.
After all, thats where we were with Allardyce. Rather be in the top-3 at christmas with your boss telling every f*cker who'll listen that he'd rather manage England or ABIGCLUB than scrat aound with one of the usual suspects off the same bloody merry-go-round.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
It's the old debate again.
Old hand, been there, done it, fcked it up and been sacked from elsewhere,
or young whippersnapper just making a name for himself so no track record,
or someone with no experience at all and this could be his first managerial position.
Personally I'd go for Solskjaer, just making a name for himself and potential to take us places.
Whether he'd come or not is another question which is open to debate.

Mccarthys got clubs up before
i can see the boarf giving him a season deal - see if it gets us promoted...then a bit longer, with a view to acting quicker when its going wrong

So have our last two managers. Whats the difference?

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
We are 18th in the championship and struggling. I'd rather we had someone we knew could do the job, in theory at least, as they've done it before, than take a wild punt on someone who's never managed, or only managed in a two-bob league!Lord Kangana wrote:So have our last two managers. We need a manager, so whatever happens we won't appoint Megson or Coyle, so comparing their records is pointless.
I don't get the proven failure thing. Coyle had never failed before us, he'd never been really tested either.
Let's not fall for shiny false prophets and get whoever is most likely to take us up, as clearly that is what the club requires!

So lets get Mick McCarthy the proven failure then? F*cking genius.
