Maybe he turned down Villa because he doesn't want to go straight into the EPL, would rather go into English football a bit lower down... we'd be perfect!
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Appleton not heard anything, so he claims here. Seems a bit cagey.
Comments from the Portsmouth fans below, do not inspire me with confidence.....
Plus, he is the spits of Voldemort, so he'll do for me

Eeh it's like a bonus transfer window is this new manager business
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Or he just didn't fancy Villa, who aren't exactly in great shape themselves considering the resources of the club. 'Even' managing in Norway, taking a club like Molde to the title (in fact in his first season in full-time senior management, the team finished 2nd in the Norwegian League...) is a big achievement and should be noticed by clubs throughout Europe.Armchair Wanderer wrote:Maybe he turned down Villa because he doesn't want to go straight into the EPL, would rather go into English football a bit lower down... we'd be perfect!
I don't think he'd jump at managing either Bolton or Blackburn, but could perhaps be swayed by a good enough offer and the chance to build a team and get himself noticed even more.

Well put. Never read comments below the line: they rarely amount to anything. Empty vessels...Prufrock wrote:Aye, but that looks like the equivalent of the B(E)N. Indeed. I repeat: we have a good squad which is underachieving; a good stadium; an understanding owner and chairman; a decent crowd; a Premier League set-up. But most of all, we have a good squad which is underachieving. You have to think that managers must look at it and fancy their chances.danardif1 wrote:Or he just didn't fancy Villa, who aren't exactly in great shape themselves considering the resources of the club. We're also well-located for someone of Solksjaer's history... surely his family would find it easy to re-settle in the area they only left a couple of years ago!?!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Well put. Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
just to add fuel to the OGS rumour, he's cancelled his appearance at an event in London, so he's in the country atm so a short trip up north could be on the cards.

Hearing more rumblings about BSA.
Can't and wouldn't understand his logic having a team that is doing well to drop it to come back up north.

To be fair , we did pooh-pooh warnings / criticisms from Burnley fans, probably dismissed them in the same manner, and put it down to ignorance / bitterness. There's no harm in admitting that fans who see other managers more than us can spot failings, even if they can't always elaborate on 'he's shit'.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Well put. Approximately 0% chance of that happening I reckon.DJBlu wrote:Hearing more rumblings about BSA.

Are they real rumblings or just fans who pine for days gone by?DJBlu wrote:Hearing more rumblings about BSA.

Is it too much of a coincidence that Super John packed his job in and is now heading back to blighty? Would love to see him back at the club, in the coaching set-up.

I always thought he had turned Villa down offended becasue he wasnt their first choice?
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
hmmm... if so - then maybe that's why we've leaked stuff about interviewing Natalie Appleton but telling her OGS was our first choice....General Mannerheim wrote:I always thought he had turned Villa down offended becasue he wasnt their first choice?

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I seem to recall, back when the internet was young, a few Notts County fans saying Allardyce was overrated. But whatever: my point was general - those who comment on stories are hardly ever worth listening to.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:To be fair , we did pooh-pooh warnings / criticisms from Burnley fans, probably dismissed them in the same manner, and put it down to ignorance / bitterness. I have a sneaky feeling BSA would come back if PG asked him too - unlikely PG will though, ego, pride and sheer bloody numpyness wouldn't let himBeefheart wrote:Approximately 0% chance of that happening I reckon.DJBlu wrote:Hearing more rumblings about BSA.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
He'd leave a team doing well in the premiership, where he's likely to get decent investment, for a team 18th in the Championship who he left citing a lack of ambition?Barefoot Wanderer wrote:I have a sneaky feeling BSA would come back if PG asked him too - unlikely PG will though, ego, pride and sheer bloody numpyness wouldn't let himBeefheart wrote:Approximately 0% chance of that happening I reckon.DJBlu wrote:Hearing more rumblings about BSA.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I'm torn on Appleton. It would certainly be an underwhelming appointment but Megson prepared me for that possibility. His only tangible achievement I can see is getting a side out on the pitch for Pompey. I've no idea if he's any good or not but I'd still prefer him over the merry go round lot of McCarthy, Bruce etc
OGS looks a better bet each day. Young, something to prove and something notable on his cv.

You think he'd leave Premiership West Ham for Championship Bolton if Phil asked him nicely. What's your tipple? Antifreeze?!
