Well I've not had a St Austell in ages, and I've never had a Sharps at all ever, so they'll all be like guests to me. When in Rome and all...

Unfortunately I get access denied due to work's stringent policy of denying anything remotely beerlike, gamblingy, or pornographic anywhere near their screens + I haven't learnt how to turn the goddam kiddy-lock off my phone. So thanks for the effort, but I can't get to it. Anyway, I'm off out now for some ale... I'll catch up tomorrow. Keep the info flowing I'm not going down until the end of the month. Cheers. :pissed:

The Logan Rock Inn, Treen is very close to where you will be staying.

Dunno about pubs, only been to the one in Coverack which is OK, but nowt special. Beer is good down there though. Sharp's 'Doom Bar' and St Austell's 'Tribute' and 'Proper Job'. I hope you're prepared for the prices though! Doom Bar is 40p dearer in Rock, where it is brewed, than it is 250 miles away up here!

Cheers LGM, I was hoping there would be a pub within walking distance, and that's perfect.
And yes Pruf I kind of expected to be ripped off, I blame all the bloody tourists. I'll just have to cut back on the pasties and starve the dog for a week.

[And I've managed to get my phone un-kiddylocked (kind of) so I can now view some links, although it still won't let me onto flickr for example.]

Ruddles County current guest on at the moment. Trying to flog it so we can get a bit of.....Marston's Pedigree :pissed: .

And Bruce, don't go ruining it with you Buxton-based tales of heaven. You can't miss what you never have.

Details!

I knew it was the same place Carling is based, I just thought that place was Buxton. Still, I can't wait till Friday! In fact, I might have to go up for a couple tonight and help shift the Ruddles!

Lost Leopard Spot wrote:General plea for information (my phone won't tell me because it thinks I'm under 18, and work computer won't let me because it's work's computer, and my copy of "Good Beer Guide" is just over a decade old), so where are the good pubs* in SW Cornwall? The closer to Porthcurno/Porthgwarra the better.

* real ale, tiny snugs, olde worlde real fires, witch trials on Saturday nights; that sort of thing.
I've been wandering around the area on google maps. Nothing near Porthgwarra but there is a pub in Porthcumo called the Cable Station Inn. Their website states "On offer at the bar is a wonderful range of traditional ales, fine wines, local ciders and spirits, not too mention the range of soft drinks available." The area looks very nice but you'll need a narrower car than mine....

I popped over to Treen (the road does not follow any crows) and checked out the Logan Rock Inn - good parking lot nearby and seems nice enough. Noted for its collection of cricket memorabilia in the snug.

Sorry Bill, I missed this. Bay Horse in Heath Charnock (between Adlington and Rivington). 'Fraid the Ruddles will be gone early tomorrow night. Pedigree on then, plus Jennings Cumberland and Sharp's Doom Bar. A very bonny barmaid on tomorrow early evening, given you won't be busy :D.

Cheers Monty. LGM pointed me in the direction of Treen. Just got my OS Explorer map of the area through from Amazon, and there is a straightforward footpath to Treen via Porthcurno (with the exception of one tricky section above the cliffs) - so I think I know which two pubs I'll be mostly spending my evenings in. Two weeks to go, expectations building.

Fairly standard last night. Some Black Sheep in Head of Steam at Huddersfield station and a few Taylor's Landlord in the Golcar Lilly in erm Golcar.

Oh aye forgot the Saltaire Blond at Duck & Drake in Leeds. That was probably the best one.

Just watch out for the Little Treen Man, a grotesque half-human who stalks the coastal paths at dusk mutteringly darkly to himself.

I've heard he only comes out once the ice turns green, so I should be safe.

Is the Little Treen Man called the Mekon? Tango can explain for the younger generation.

Is that the one at the top of Babylon Lane, Pru? Mrs BP was dragged up a bit further down the road, if it's the one i'm thinking of. Never been in, as I try to avoid the area. It usually means a visit to her Gran's, which entails a bit of bible bashing.

That's the one, opposite the duck pond. How far down Babylon Lane? I might know Gran :D. We have a troupe who come in on Tuesday nights for knit and natter.

Anyway, last night was a huge disappointment. Let down by everybody else, the Ruddles was still on, and no sign of Pedigree. I attacked it manfully, and finally defeated it 10 mins before closing time, at which point there was no chance of the Pedigree coming on until this morning. I feel a bit wonky, but I won!
