What are you playing tonight?

The gangsta gun-toting 'I shot a man, honest' American stuff is universally and unremittingly pish. That doesn't mean it all is. I don't like very much, and what I do, I don't listen to very often, mainly because it isn't stuff you can just stick on in the background. Almost the entire point is the words, so if you aren't concentrating you might as well not bother, and a lot of music I listen to now is on in the background. The good stuff is fantastic though, and expresses all sorts. My favourite stuff tends to be the London scene where Dizzy Rascal came from before he started hanging about with with Hollywood stars and writing shite about going on holiday. Boy in Da Corner is ace. As is stuff from the same time by the like of Sway, the Mitchell Bros, and some Wiley (though he too seemed a bit too obsessed with the American soap-opera rivalry bollocks). Sway's Download and Mitchell Bros' Harvey Nicks (featuring certain Mr Skinner) are both really funny and well written.

I'm also listening to Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip at lot at the moment who I accidentally saw live a few months back. I didn't think rap really worked live (I saw Mr Rascal at Fabric and he was OK, his support were gash) but they were brill. Political and clever and charismatic. Followed up by Billy Bragg. Then Frank Turner. I can't think of a more Bobo-sounding line up!

Guy at work was selling his CDs off for charity at £2 a pop, so in a 2399 moment I bought 10.

Just had Royksopp on, now enjoying Glasvegas

I wouldn't expect Glasvegas to play Bolton again after their last appearance.

Sorry that post wasn't meant to sound as cryptic as it did!

Basically, they turned up, saw the venue, did the soundcheck, waited until there were a fair few people at the venue then told the promoter that they hated the venue and refused to play. Took a fair bit of persuasion to get them to go on stage.

There was also an issue with payment but I forget what that was.

Taken the plunge with Mumford and Son's Sigh no More. What an absolute joy! A bit like Hothouse Flowers meet Arcade Fire. Was impressed on first listen, and it's growing and growing and growing! :oyea:
