Jimmy Phillips now second favourite for the job at 6/1. Dougie Freedman big favourite at 11/10.

Glad to see Mick McCarthy slipping to 6/1.

A Wanderers apprentice who went for a wander, but returned like a prodigal son to be a feature of our defence for over 200 games.
Was given a testemonial against Celtic, then youth team coach, then reserves coach......... if Gartsides looking for an up and coming manager with no other outstanding characters in the frame then I'd be happy to roll with Jimmy for a while
As said elsewhere is it not Sammy Lee in charge and Phillips assisting him?

Lee would certainly seem to be more senior.

I don't think any amount of results would leave me wanting a Lee or Phillips managerial appointment or a combo thereof.

For the short term its fine.

But we need a proper manager long term to set a strong vision and outlook for the club. A manager who has some actual experience and can lead us forward.

Thats my opinion. We may well be looking to have a Lee, Phillips, Darby coaching/support team in around a manager, but I still fell we'd need an actual manager in there, to manage with authority.

Lee was a disaster last time and Phillips is just totally unproven in many many aspects.

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman will only deal in facts in the face of rumours connecting him to vacant manager's job at Bolton Wanderers.

However, the facts in question were not denying any interest in the job, rather the undeniable fact of an impending London derby this weekend.

The Scot, currently the bookies's favourite to take over from the sacked Owen Coyle, has been in charge at Selhurst Park since January 2011 and, despite a bad start to the Championship season, his Eagles are now flying high in fourth place.

Laughing off suggestions he would be turning up at the Reebok Stadium, Freedman said that anyone intending to have a cheeky flutter on the bet should save their money.

He said: "I cannot stop speculation, but I am very happy to be playing Millwall this weekend and that’s all I want to say. I cannot deal with speculation, I have too much to do in this job.

"I only deal in facts, and the facts are that I have a game against Millwall this weekend and I am keeping my fingers crossed that my players come back from international duty without any injuries, and I am also keeping my fingers crossed that I have prepared in the best possible way so that we win the match.

"Those are the facts, let's stick to the facts."

He added: "When I was younger, 19 or so, and there was speculation that I'd be playing for Glasgow and Celtic, at that age I found it quite difficult to deal with.

"But as you get older, you can brush it aside."

The Eagles' Championship match against London rivals Millwall kicks off at 1pm.

To be fair there was something in the BeN the other week that said Jiminiho in charge with Lee and Darby helping... And this kind of backs that up from the offissssssh site

http://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/article/phil ... 22047.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Most other articles point to a Lee and Phillips together... but Jiminiho is Sammy Lee's boss in the normal day to day stucture isn't he? Ipso Facto Jiminiho is the man in charge...

Could be a tactical genius for all we know... we shouldn't ignore the possible marked improvement in our outh ranks in the last few years....

Hmm was it not only last year that Gartside gave a very public warning to Jimmy Phillips that the academy output had to improve significantly?

And as if by magic, Joe Riley and Josh Vela appeared on the scene, with people like Jack Sampson and Michael O'Halloran out on loan. I think that warning was more a case of "We have have to start using the youth players in a first team capacity", or a "We have to start promoting some youth players". Not so much a dig at the academy, more the whole club outlook on the youth squad.

Muamba has his say. Not really holding back any punches about Coyle there.

Clearly not a massive fan, despite the way his quotes were misused last week.
Lots of hints, nothing as substantial or damning as the public slating Megson received from the players when we f*cked him off.

Context.

Two players who Megson had dropped IIRC, Steinsson and Elmander had a pop at him in the media.

Muamba a player Coyle sat by the bedside of during his illness, who has now retired from football, and is generally perceived to be a very nice guy, is as you say "hinting" but not exactly being complimentary at all.

In context that says a lot.

Yes it does. Not necessarily about Coyle either.

Sky Sports understands that Sammy Lee is in firm contention to take charge at Bolton Wanderers.

Lee, who in his third-stint on the coaching staff at the Reebok Stadium, has been appointed caretaker along with Jimmy Phillips following Owen Coyle's departure last week.

Lee was previously manager at the club in 2007 when he took charge for a brief spell following Sam Allardyce's departure.

Things did not work out for the former England midfielder then, but it is understood that if he impresses as caretaker then he could be handed the chance to take charge again.

And Lee has admitted just how much he is enjoying himself back at the helm.

"These last few days have been fantastic, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my time since I have been back here, if I'm being honest," he told the club's website.

"When Jimmy and I were asked to do it, we didn't give it a second thought. I will do whatever I can for the football club.

"The boys have been spot on. They have been focused and I have been very pleased with their application. We know there is a lot of quality in that dressing room.

"We have a game-plan which we want to impose on whoever we play, but in order to do so you have to have the basics right. We have been working hard on that and have stripped things back."

I'm not at all sure what that means but it gives me an odd sense of belief.

Worrying how easily that happens.

Is Gartside out of ideas now that he's had all his and Mark Curtis's's' mates here?

Their domestic season ends in November, they are in the Europa league though with a fixture as late as the 6th December (and if they went through, fixtures in the new year onwards).

I'm really not convinced that we are waiting for OGS.

Perhaps he was first choice, but by the time he COULD be available who knows what other jobs might be knocking around.
