If there's any truth in it and it happened, how many of you would be happy or keep an open mind about it? Show of hands please!

He'd not be my pick. What norm the jedi says about a "different era".
On the other hand, I believe we need someone in the immediate term with a strong personality and a strong sense of leadership. Muamba has pretty much said he thinks the players need someone who won't take any shit.
Souness would tick that box and assuming it was short term, I would give it a go.
His record as a manager aside from all the fall outs isn't bad, he might just be what we need for a while to sort out the mess thats been left behind.
Frankly for me I do think we need experience to get us back on track.
He's got a better record than McCarthy for those who are record orientated though personally I think McCarthy would built a better spirit.
Souness wouldn't be in my list of candidates. I'd be wary about his abrasive personality.
But I'll be prepared to give whoever it is a proper chance. As I always am with managers......

Theres actually quite a serious point hidden in all this humour.norm the jedi wrote:He's not Megson, which is a plus
If Nixon is to be believed (a tough enough proposition as it is), Uncle Ted is going after the very man who was snubbed* by Gartside and Curtis in 2007.
*Great piece of reverse snubberisation by our chairman there.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

And further to your point LK IF he is right then it was uncle Eddie who overruled Gartside and demanded Coyle was chopped.Lord Kangana wrote:Theres actually quite a serious point hidden in all this humour.norm the jedi wrote:He's not Megson, which is a plus

Therefore seemingly Eddie is taking more of a front seat in the football side of the club.
Its not surprising though is it?

Well as I've already pointed out, he's been getting more involved since he the Elmander contract talks. I'm pretty certain he's fed up of his money being wasted.

Look, whatever you think about Liverpool, (and I can hear people retching already), the fact is that Souness was the last in a line of managers, starting with Bill Shankly, in the Boot Room tradition, and he absolutely fxcked Liverpool over. How the hell can you say that his record ain't that bad. He took what was the greatest football club in the land at that time and shagged them sideways.
That's not a leopard!

If you'd invested 100M of your money into a club that was (when you started investing) up and coming in the premiership, about to go four seasons straight in the top ten, then you find yourself struggling through successive managerial appointments and ultimately 18th in the championship, I suspect you'd be thinking "feck this, I'm going to start calling the shots round here".Lord Kangana wrote:Well as I've already pointed out, he's been getting more involved since he the Elmander contract talks. Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I'd hate Souness. He hasn't managed in what, 5 years? Maybe more and has he really ever done well anywhere? He got Blackburn promoted though with a good side including a young Dunn, Duff and Jansen as I remember, but is there anything else to suggest he would do well? I don't want McCarthy either for reasons previously stated, so if it is really that shortlist of 3, I'll have the other fella.

Tend to ignore his win percentage at Rangers cos a 2 year old could manage a 50% ratio at Rangers or Celtic in that league (or as was until recent events ).

True enough although in business, I imagine the chief executive would be out on his arse if that were the case o does Gartsides continued presence suggest that we may be over doing Eddie's boardroom take over?BWFC_Insane wrote:If you'd invested 100M of your money into a club that was (when you started investing) up and coming in the premiership, about to go four seasons straight in the top ten, then you find yourself struggling through successive managerial appointments and ultimately 18th in the championship, I suspect you'd be thinking "feck this, I'm going to start calling the shots round here".Lord Kangana wrote:Well as I've already pointed out, he's been getting more involved since he the Elmander contract talks. I suspect Gartside's contacts in football are invaluable. I doubt Eddie Davies has the time to chase up managers and players agents, do deals, run the club etc.norm the jedi wrote:True enough although in business, I imagine the chief executive would be out on his arse if that were the case o does Gartsides continued presence suggest that we may be over doing Eddie's boardroom take over?BWFC_Insane wrote:If you'd invested 100M of your money into a club that was (when you started investing) up and coming in the premiership, about to go four seasons straight in the top ten, then you find yourself struggling through successive managerial appointments and ultimately 18th in the championship, I suspect you'd be thinking "feck this, I'm going to start calling the shots round here".Lord Kangana wrote:Well as I've already pointed out, he's been getting more involved since he the Elmander contract talks. But perhaps Eddie wants to make the big decisions rather than letting Phil have as free a remit as before...it makes sense.
