Re: Anyone but him!
I'd rather have Megson back than Souness.
In fact, when we appointed Meggo, my dad rang me up to tell me. We have a ten minute conversation about how uninspiring a choice he was before coming to a joint conclusion that, at least we could say one thing positive: he wasn't Souness.
Hell. No.

By all means argue his footballing deficiencies, and lord he's got them in spades like the other usual suspects, but you're kind of throwing the first stone here.
(Which is not to say I'm keen on Souness!)

Aye but I'm sure Souness ir more than just a bollocking. In a way I'm more scared of getting another "weak" figure like Coyle, rather than someone who kicks off a bit.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:You are a touchy-feely kind of guy, aren't you DSB? It always engendered distrust and hatred, but now it simply alienates – and frequently leaves the 'enforcer' isolated. I don't wish to go off on one about The Youth Of Today, but when you're dealing with teenage millionaires who have grown up without corporal punishment, you can't simply bellow, bully and kick them into submission. This isn't the place to argue whether that's for better or worse, but if all a manager has about him is the loudest voice or the sharpest studs, he will fail. Even Fergie has noted that, subtly somewhat reinventing himself away from the stern disciplinarian to the pater familias.
Which is why I'm a bit worried about Phillips getting the job.
We need an authoritarian, who is tough. That doesn't necessarily equal a Souness old school type, but I think Muamba is right. This group needs a leader. It hasn't had one for two years.....

Re: Anyone but him!
We need a manager who's respected. That doesn't have to come from laying down the law. It can come through achievement, or originality of ideas. Coyle was far too soft and it's notable how the players seem to have reacted well to the new/temporary regime giving them some serious structure. I don't necessarily buy the idea that Jimmy's too nice; that McGovern quote is followed by him acting on his manager's "too nice" by nearly cutting the next winger in half. Not that that makes him a good manager (or left-back!) but I think we're all getting a little carried away with the idea of Jimmy reading the Academy bedside stories. Let's see how it pans out - if nothing else, it might give us time to appoint a better manager than making a poor decision in haste.

Players were queuing up to slate Megson's screaming-in-their-face approach. This disciplinarian shite is fantasy. We just need good structure and a touch of professionalism. What with them being highly paid professionals at a professional football club.

Allardyce ranted and raved and handed out bollockings. But he earned respect.Lord Kangana wrote:Players were queuing up to slate Megson's screaming-in-their-face approach. We've just had a manager who earned no respect from the players, that is clear.
The next man needs to do that. We certainly don't want a shrinking violet IMHO.

I think there are a fair few stops between Roy Keane and "shrinking violet". Despite the popular myth that some seem to be promulgating - there are probably a few stops between Jiminho and "shrinking violet" too...

Agreed Bish.
What I do like about hiring Souness though, is that when it's time to hound him out, we can all kill two birds with one stone.
Make our feelings on the manager clear and order our chinese's for after the match with 'Chop Souey' signs.
Win win.

I can introduce you to a good mate of mine, a proper pro, still working for the club on the football side and he'll tell you stories to make your hair curlLord Kangana wrote:Players were queuing up to slate Megson's screaming-in-their-face approach. Right, and Coyle pissed about.
But fcking Souness?! Did you all miss the bit about him going after his own bastard player in training and snapping him. Yeah shout at 'em, it'll be just like telly. Fook me.

Re: Anyone but him!
Reading of the 'tremendous changes' Phillips & co. have introduced into training this past 10 days has simply confirmed what a fckg shambles Cptn. Chaos was running. No wonder we've seemed ill-organised, tactically inept & downright unfit compared with others. It's because we were/are.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Anyone but him!
Lets see what all these wonderful changes do to our football before we laud Phillips and Lee. Obviously there were some serious things wrong with the way the players were being trained under Coyle but these new science-based training methods will be worthless without a tactical brain behind it all.bobo the clown wrote:Reading of the 'tremendous changes' Phillips & co. have introduced into training this past 10 days has simply confirmed what a fckg shambles Cptn. Yeah .... you can put it in a way which doesn't identify him.Sponge wrote:Spill 'em then.CAPSLOCK wrote:I can introduce you to a good mate of mine, a proper pro, still working for the club on the football side and he'll tell you stories to make your hair curlLord Kangana wrote:Players were queuing up to slate Megson's screaming-in-their-face approach. . were made to train hard
. were measured in that training
. that they worked on defensive formations
. watched video's of recent games to see where mistakes were made .... and
. that these things were changes ffs ....
is shameful.
It also confirms what most of us believed we were seeing .... an unfit, disorganised shambles, with no ideas & no clue how to defend. With half the better players not on the pitch and others being played out of position.
Whether these guys can change it in a week is a different matter, but at least we now know we were correct in our views.

Re: Anyone but him!
I think Jimmy Philips will be dishing out some boll*ckings if he gets the job seems a hard ba**ard to me.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
