We were sooooo much better with the ball it was unreal. Like, a plan and everything. First half hour was odd, they had the ball in our box twice, and scored twice. Wonder goal for the first, and what looked like the stonewallest of stonewall penalties from a ludicrous challenge by Ream. Even then I always felt like we were going to win. Matt Mills at one point was like a combination of Beckenbauer and Hierro, including one textbook 40 yard crossfield volley! Kevin Davies was pulling strings, and the second and third goals were a joy to watch.

There is still a LOT of work to do at the back though. If Sam Baldock could head we'd have lost that game. It is going to take longer than two weeks to sort out two years of ineptitude though.

The team was a weird one. First of all, Ream is shite, and hopefully Knight was injured/dropped for being late and either he or Ricketts can come in on Tues. I was wary of that midfield, but Mark Davies had one of his good days, was involved a lot, and he and Spearing bossed it fairly easily. Bristol City were absolutely balls. Hopefully the management realised that and so we were more open. Even then we looked miles better second half when we swapped from a flat 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1 with Eagles, Petrov and Afobe all milling around Super Kevin Davies. The football for the second and third was brilliant. Kevin 'Silva' Davies threading through balls for the cool-headed Spearing; Eagles, Kev and Chungy combining to put in the ice-cool Petrov. LOOOL.

Also, so many of our fans are whinging cock-ends. Eagles got absolute dog's abuse throughout! I don't get it. He is a bit mard, but he is less soft than Petrov, and does more, and yet these fans hate him, and love Petrov! The latter is an absolute fanny. Head in his hands when it looks like someone might want to head it near him. I'd still have him in like, coz he's got fantastic ability, but I'd hate to be playing behind him. Also booed the ref off for giving a penalty. Oh my. Ref was shite mind, both ways. Seemed to get absolutely everything wrong. One of theirs looked like he should have gone for a Souness on-his-own-player-in-training tackle.

Anyway, a really good game, and three points. Great going forward, pish at the back, which is an improvement in one area anyway. See what happens at Wolves.

ABS.

Shocking. Even after the goal?

Someone near me shouted 'You've lost your powers now your friend Coyle has gone!' at him. Some strange folk about.

At the time I thought 100% nailed on but since seeing it on the box I don't think it was. Not the best angle on sky so will watch the football league show tonight and hopefully there is more angles.

Looks to me like Ream got the ball before the player went over.

I didn't think it was a penalty .... & trying not to be biased here.

Oddly, near the end of the half a Bristol player could easily have got one if he'd gone over, but stayed on his feet.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

To be honest I dont think the ins and outs of the game really matter.
Its a much needed three points from an awkward game. (First after Coyle)
Onwards and Upwards I hope.

So just to be clear... it's pretty obvious that this is actually Jimmy's Bolton with Sammy 'Director of Football' Lee overseeing right?

Or is it more of a sharing job with Jimmy as the touchline guy for matchday?

Conceded in our typical ways of from a corner (yes good goal, but from an easy 3 v 2 ;)) and a penalty, but we were pretty good in pursuing the comeback. Kevin Davies against Louis Carey was a good battle, a little too much moaning from each, but it was nice to see Davies instrumental in the second half to get us the win and get one over on him.

It was decent but I think there's still plenty room for improvement, we had a lot more of the ball but naturally there were some tentative passes and spells when some players were playing at different tempos, I think we did enough though and the 2nd and 3rd were very satisfying goals, better goals than anything they've come up with under Coyle for a while. When you get a win that "Room for improvement" now feels like an opportunity rather than being unacceptable!

Given the circumstances I thought we'd start quickly and go from there but a slow start left me impressed by the changes the management team made.

Eagles scored with what must be his fourth free kick already!? and most surprisingly Jay Spearing burst past the forwards to slot one in

Yep. Tart this, Pansy that. One bloke near me even calls him 'Stiletto boy' whatever the feck that means. Constantly with the 'get him off'. He can be really annoying, like. One point pulling out the Ronaldo tricks and flicks when it was still 2-2. Still, our best player by some distance this year.

I've only seen it the once, live, from behind the goal, and it looked nailed on to me. It was one of those you could see coming from miles away. Looked a stupid tackle. I haven't seen a replay though, so could be wrong.

I'm the only one who likes Eagles near where I sit too. Yes it's a little frustrating when he's not favourite in a tackle but he tries things - they are not all going to come off and how often do we need someone to try something different!

No issues with Eagles where I sit.

Mavis gets some stick sometimes, Mears gets dogs abuse. KDavies isn't felt to be worth all the free kicks (& hence possession) he gives away.

MotM was Spearing for me. Pulled the strings in midfield like Sammy Lee did in his pomp. It felt like M Davies had been sent off.

BTW - why was the Police helicopter buzzing around the place afterwards? :conf:

Bristol fans causing trouble.. One of my mates was in the Harvester and luckily moved seats to eat minutes before the windows went through.

Great to hear so much positivity. Sounds like a good performance. Kept it on the deck and looked more organised. Baby steps... I still think it foolish to believe we can get away with Petrov/Eagles/Mavis in midfield against decent opposition but you can only beat whats infront of you so hurrah.
I'm sure this isnt another false dawn like the wednesday away game where everyone was just as positive and within days fell heavily back to earth.
