I'm sure I saw photos of Freedman outside the sydney opera house on his facebook page soem time back so we can all rest easy.plymouth wanderer wrote:FaninOz wrote:Why would he leave Palace for us?? And don't say that because we are a "big" club and Palace aren't.
Can't see any footballing reasons!! They are sitting fourth in the Championsip and playing better football than us, it just doesnt make any footballing sense.Mind we may pay him a bigger salary and money often talks!!
Acually don't now anything about him, have never heard him speak or even seen a photo of him, not sure that he's ever been to Oz (but then that's irrelevant I guess). So I have no idea if he is a good choice or not.

So you think Palace are on par with us as a club?
You need to give your head a wobble if you honestly believe that. They are sitting in fourth at the moment but things soon change.. Look at Blackpool who were riding high and now sat mid table.

Only 7 months left on his contract so how much comp can they ask for? McGinley was the one who stated 10 games for coyle very early on. Often get the impression he knows a lot of what is going on behind the scenes so what he is saying may well reflect the club's thinking.plymouth wanderer wrote:Big John has his say

If we're talking experience again we're down to souness and Mick. Both gambles on the basis of what they havent achieved when the pressure has been on. You cant discount freedman on the strength of him not having had to deal with a bad spell then recommend managers who have experienced bad spells and failed to deal with them successfully.

As does Big Phil.

Apologies if someone already posted this.PHIL Gartside is still waiting for Mr Right in his search to find the next Wanderers boss.
The Chairman reckons some of the names that have been linked to the role since he sacked Owen Coyle last Tuesday have been “laughable” but claims he has a list of “30 or 40 names” that could be considered serious contenders

I dread to think how many faxes he's got in his pockets.
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Why are people suddenly so keen on Freedman? He has less than two seasons experience. He hasn't even had the success that the likes of Allardyce and Coyle had prior to their appointments.

Agree. If we wanted to go down this route I'd rather us give Jimmy, Sammy and Julian a go until the end of the season.BL3 wrote:Why are people suddenly so keen on Freedman? Presumably the plan is, young boss with Sammy and Jimmy working as coaches around them.
Can't see us getting him but we will see.
Keep an open mind, I'd say. He's done a good job at Palace. But so had Coyle before he came here. If Lee and Phillips stay involved with first team I'd say thats progress irrespective of the managerial choice....

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
He's been there five minutes. Coyle had managed two clubs relatively successfully before he joined us. He'd also won promotion from the Championship. Freedman has overseen a decent run of about half a dozen games after losing the first three. If that's the benchmark, we might as well stick with the team currently in charge.BWFC_Insane wrote:He's done a good job at Palace.

Slightly different set of circumstances at Palace.BL3 wrote:He's been there five minutes. Coyle had managed two clubs relatively successfully before he joined us. I'm with you to an extent. But if we've properly assessed the situation and taken our time for the person with the right attributes, then fair enough....
Can't see us getting him anyhow. Think we may well end up sticking with what we've got till the end of the season. Which would be a mistake for me....

Few comments from a Palace messageboard:

I'd be surprised if Bolton went for him, given that it's only a few weeks since people on here stopped calling for his head
lets face it losing your 1st league 3 games and getting tonked by a nomark team like preston, with fans going into meltdown in this site, then putting a run of games together and people hoping he doesnt go, does show how fickle football is!
Dougie said he doubted himself at the start of this season and considered whether he really wanted management in his life. I doubt going to Bolton is a good decision 2 months after going through those thoughts and coming out the other side but in a league where the margins are very tight. As others have said, he'd be taking a big risk after a couple of years as the number 1 at a club in a career that could last a couple of decades.
His stock has risen, no doubt about that . But in all seriousness is he ready or even experienced enough to take on a club where he is not going to be given the leg room he gets here ? . Even if this has substance, im sure he would be aware of the pitfalls of going somewhere that to all intents and purposes expect an immediate return to the prem. We, due to his status as something of a legend, would forgive him failure in acheiving that, wheteas bolton wouldnt.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Most Palace fans on there are desperate for him to stay. Let's get that into perspective!
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
The people i've quoted are 'desperate for him to stay'. They're also realistic enough to wonder why someone who was under pressure in his own job three games into the season, is now being linked with another job. They're also questioning whether he has the experience for that job. Both reasonable questions in my opinion.

Absolutely are. I suppose the idea is that an experienced structure are ready made to support him.BL3 wrote:The people i've quoted are 'desperate for him to stay'. I can't really see why he'd leave Palace at this stage unless there is more going on there than is in the public view...he's a hero down there.

Stick with Jiminiho till end of the season seems to be the way Gartside is maneuvering at the moment though, or that's the way it seems in the Bolton News reports
Pfffft.

Ermmmm we've just made an official approach for another manager.....TKIZ! wrote:Stick with Jiminiho till end of the season seems to be the way Gartside is maneuvering at the moment though, or that's the way it seems in the Bolton News reports
I'd hardly say that suggests anything of the sort.

The approach was made on friday, so there is the possibility that Gartside could have had second thoughts after the match.BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermmmm we've just made an official approach for another manager.....TKIZ! wrote:Stick with Jiminiho till end of the season seems to be the way Gartside is maneuvering at the moment though, or that's the way it seems in the Bolton News reports
