Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
It looks like your chairman tapped him up. Your staff appear to dislike how our owners have handled the timing of the announcement of DF resigning. Your chairman finally approached us on Saturday morning, prior to the Millwall game. So, I guess there is some resentment about how your chairman has conducted himself. As for Freedman, I think we are getting over him (thanks to his incredibly poor behaviour), and are watching with a wry chuckle.Harry Genshaw wrote:I can understand Palace fans being upset at Freedman but not sure what we have done wrong to deserve any bad karma? But to announce that he'd joined us because Freedman had rung them to say he was, is not really that professional.
Say he's left Palace, fine, but not really their place to announce something that hadn't quite happened yet.
Anyhow, being announced tomorrow apparently.....

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
Going off past appointments Gartside has no rationale! - "up and comming, young manager" was his target and I suppose Freedman fits this quite nicely. Because DF is over-achieving with the players he has at the moment (no disrespect), even though is over a short period, Gartside likes what he's doing and from what I understand DF has brought youngsters through successfully at Palace which will also fit in well with PG's current ideas. I believe PG prefers a small fish in a big pond, rather than a big fish like Roy Keane or Souness who would want bigger budgets and bigger wagesEagle in peace wrote:Hi chaps,
Genuinely not here to stir, but if you take my fellow fans post and remove Freedman's wins from our recent form then you will understand the results look a little underwhelming. To repeat what other Palace fans have probably said, we knew what we were buying into, so tolerated the largely defensive football. I would be interested to know what Gartside's rationale is as you may well realise from our forums, it is mystifying us!
It's an interesting appointment from our view but better than McCarthy which seemed to be more likely a week ago (I wouldn't have minded Souness). I think if he succeeds it will take him 2 seasons to get us back up unless things fall smoothly into place which they rarely do, but DF is deffensive minded which might have a good effect right now. Really Gartside should go with what he's got (Jimmy Phillips & co) and see whos knocking around near xmas, but this is unlikely to happen now - I think DF's success or failure is a toss of a coin because we don't know enough about him to predict what is likely to happen, but this is often the case and why we love football!

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
Before DF's time CPFC has always had a good crop of young players in the same way someone like Watford has, DF did not make these players what they were they were there already, Zaha for instance was in Palaces first team prior to DF comming in, yes he did play him and put faith in him.Barefoot Wanderer wrote:Going off past appointments Gartside has no rationale! - "up and comming, young manager" was his target and I suppose Freedman fits this quite nicely. I do not think that DF is over acheiving with the players I think that we at present have bought in the right players to have a decent sized squad which we have not been able to afford untill recently.
DF was defensive minded and it was not working, every time we lost a game it seemed he lost any attacking intent, the huge success that DF has had in recent weeks is due to attacking football with decent cover at the back.

Freedman resigned stating he was going to manage Bolton. We announced what we were told. As I said, tapping up and the timing of the official approach leaves Gartside with little recourse to crying foul.

Your owners said that everything was above board with the approach and were very happy with how Bolton acted through the whole affair.....
Anyhow, your owners are new to football. Guess they are learning as they go. Gartside has been in this game a long time.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
We may be overachieving but it's also too simplistic to apportion our current success to this entirely (soon to stop this Saturday at Leicester). We have made judicious signings in August that have been key building blocks to support our youngsters (who have another seasons experience) and the other established pros brought in last season. Time will tell, but the longer the press and other fans feel we are overachieving, the better as far as we are concerned.Barefoot Wanderer wrote:Going off past appointments Gartside has no rationale! - "up and comming, young manager" was his target and I suppose Freedman fits this quite nicely. Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
They are simply being polite and showing dignity, when they know DF and others have played them. This was not all sorted from Saturday morning to Sunday (when DF said he was gonna leave). DF was bookies favourite by last Wed, and there was good reason for that, with the first phone call to DF the previous Monday.BWFC_Insane wrote:Your owners said that everything was above board with the approach and were very happy with how Bolton acted through the whole affair.....

As a Palace fan I think it would be serve him right if Dougie ended up at Ipswich, It probably would be good for you guys aswell (you can do better than Dougie)
I hold no grudge against Bolton, I think they've made a mistake but I wont hold that against them, to be honest seeing the list of managers who we could be interested in is quite promising.
Good luck though for the season

I think you Palace fans have been brilliant no bitching and moaning not like them scummy Burnley fans
I do wish you luck for the rest of the season, i think with the team you got get the right manager in you could get in the play offs
Do ya think Dougie will get a dog's life when we play you at your place ?
Who are you lot linked with? who would you like to see at Palace?

Anyway, we're drinking in the last chance saloon now, so theres no real point in evaluating. We've got to get up, whether thats cos Dougie is ace, Sammy is a great coach or we all shout a bit louder. We just need to get up. Worst case scenario at the latest next season. Otherwise, we're f*cked.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Coyle really did a job on us. It may already be too late to look for top 2 this season.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
