Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
I've no idea how good he is or otherwise.Eagle in peace wrote:I realise I am labouring the point, but DF went on record stating XYZ that he was not leaving, all after he had first had contact with you guys. He repeated that in an interview at a CP Vice Presidents dinner and to Steve Parrish, our co-chairman. So yes, someone is telling fibs.BWFC_Insane wrote:Thing with your owners is that IF they felt they had a really talented young manager on their hands they were guilty of not letting his contract run down and not tying him down sooner.Eagle in peace wrote:You have a point re our not increasing his contract prior to his head being turned, I agree. That said, perhaps it simply reflects our owners assessment of his performance. You also need to know, DF negotiated this first managerial contract and was based upon his CV at that time. I don't see that our owners have made any particular howlers here based upon the facts.BWFC_Insane wrote:Palace fans are labelling this as being "all about cash". For me thats a bit naive. IF as reported he was the lowest paid manager in the division, well they should have fixed that. But clearly he is ambitious. He's more chance of making the premiership here in the next few years than at Palace, despite what a league table in October may suggest.....
Ambition? Time will indeed tell.
OR
If they didn't feel that and were happy for him to go, then they're telling fibs.
Either way, not particularly good.
Semantics really, as if he is as good as Gartside thinks he is, you will be proved right and we will be seen as making a poor decision in not locking him down. I cannot criticise our board for not closing this down earlier though based upon his results and also based upon his consistent assurances to his employers and fans.
One thing we do know is that DF can bullsh*t more than most. For your sake. let's hope it does not happen to you.
Just saying that your board MAY have not been bothered about him going. Even some of your local press have hinted at that.
Hopefully IF thats the case they've made the error and we haven't.
As you say, time will tell.

I'm actually worried by this appointment now, a lot of level headed Palace fans seem to have doubts about him.

Not pretending you are interested and I realise this is hijacking your thread and apologies for that, but I think this illustrates well what DF and this scenario meant/means to many Palace fans.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
Don't worry about hijackings. It is refreshing to have fans of other clubs on here that can manage more than 2 syllables! It is also good to get the Palace view, as lets face it, most of us know nowt about him apart from he used to be a striker at Palace. We'd been in the Premiership for long enough to become know-nowt-big-league-fans to see anything below 20th place in the 'biggest league in the world'Eagle in peace wrote:Not pretending you are interested and I realise this is hijacking your thread and apologies for that, but I think this illustrates well what DF and this scenario meant/means to many Palace fans.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
nicked this from 5 year plan
On hearing the story of Bolton’s interest in Dougie I too dismissed the thought of him leaving, I let myself believe his affection with the Palace would be too great. I’ve no real idea of how much Dougie earned as a player, but I’m sure it wasn’t a great sum, and in the cold light of day £1.5 million over three years was too much of a life changing sum for him to turn down. We’ve no real idea of his relationship with CPFC2010 but I guess it wasn’t great. I for one say good luck to him and thanks for all his work as both a player and manager, but agree that deep down inside I feel like my girlfriend just left me for a total nice person with a nice car and a good job.
no offence meant to the bolton fans

In the real world, if somebody decided to offer you more than triple your wages, would you not fancy it?

Doubled. Doubled his salary. £250,000 to £500,000 = doubled.BWFC_Insane wrote:In the real world, if someone tripled offered to triple your salary you'd say no of course?paddypower45 wrote:dnt understand freedman, lifes not easy we all work hard for little recognition he needs to get a grip on reality ad see what people get from their jobs.. in the real world

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
I was under the impression, as are plenty of other, that his salary is £125,000.
Don't know how he manages to feed his kids on that.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
His salary was meant to be £125k. It appears you have more than trebled it to £500k p.a.
Again, this is somewhat intriguing given his record.
