I shall echo those sentiments...BWFC_Insane wrote:Whilst McCarthy was my preference, you can see why they want someone like Freedman who is a proponent of bringing your youth players through the system.
That sort of plan is what we need to be doing.
I can understand that they probably thought someone like McCarthy might bring instant success, but put that plan of developing our own players back a bit, as he's more of a traditional, use experience type.
I'm sort of torn because part of me is pleased they are looking long term, the other part is slightly frustrated that we can't have someone with that promotion experience.
Got to say though, that Eddie probably was scared off taking Mick and spending a bit of money on what could possibly be "short term success".
It kind of makes sense that Freedman emerged as our first, and ultimately only choice. I really hope it works out.

I'm not sure what McCarthy brings to the table that attracted you in the first place.
I've always been amazed at how mediocre his teams are.

So if anything his family are in more danger up here??Brilliant!!! That really put a much needed smile on my face, classic!!
On a serious note, his quote of "putting his families lives at risk" is incredibly dramatic. I mean Shiiiiiiiit, seriously??!!?? What is he on?
Sad thing about all this is if the owners had re-newed his contract last week we wouldn't even be here. They seriously couldn't have done this though until at least November/December as his form prior to the last 8 matches was shocking! As it was the tail end of last season.
Look guys, I genuinely wish you well. Have no issues with Bolton fans what so ever and Bolton isn't a club on my sh1tlist. I have a few others that are but Boltons not one of them. Obviously from a sporting point of view and now df etc I naturally hope we stuff you though in January![]()
Good banter on here, sensible forum and fans! Quite refreshing actually!
Our new manager?? He's on the list that's for sure. lol, have a great day!
I don't see where he actually says anything close to that??

indeed - how could you POSSIBLY provide for your kids on a mere £125,000 a year? Impossible surely!!ohjimmyjimmy wrote:ah i see...i imagine he means from a providing point of view.

Promotion. It was all about promotion. But never mind, he's gone, I'll live. It wasn't like I was in love or anything.plymouth wanderer wrote:boltonboris wrote:I'm not sure what McCarthy brings to the table that attracted you in the first place.

Sounded like he was in limbo, i imagine he did ok in his playing career but not megabucks...and his 125k a year for 2 years as manager of palace is nice when its coming in but at 38 i dont blame him for thnking what comes after 6 months if this goes tits-up.boltonboris wrote:Me too.. Maybe a bit dramatic but he seems to be genuine that it was a concern for the future.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
I'd suggest what he means is that he only had a job for 6 months as it stood.thebish wrote:indeed - how could you POSSIBLY provide for your kids on a mere £125,000 a year? Impossible surely!!ohjimmyjimmy wrote:ah i see...i imagine he means from a providing point of view.
Clearly financially he'll be comfortable, but its all relative. The lifestyle his family will lead, will not be like yours or mine. And probably his expectations of how he'll set them up for the future will be different.
And he's in an industry where the likes of John Terry are paid more a week than he was a year.
I think its probably fair enough!

That too: wolves at the fxckin door on anything less than two mill. I know last time I had a wage negotiation I told my boss "You've gotta be kidding, how do you expect me to clothe and feed my kids and buy a yacht on less than 2 million a year".thebish wrote:indeed - how could you POSSIBLY provide for your kids on a mere £125,000 a year? aye - I think we all get that - but we're just having a bit of a larfff at his dramatic turn of phrase...ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Sounded like he was in limbo, i imagine he did ok in his playing career but not megabucks...and his 125k a year for 2 years as manager of palace is nice when its coming in but at 38 i dont blame him for thnking what comes after 6 months if this goes tits-up.boltonboris wrote:Me too.. similarly - I don't think he means that anyone from Bolton literally came through his front door - but it's funny to imagine that he did!

i think you'll find that most of us are simply having a light-hearted larff at Dougie's expense for a dramatic turn of phrase... it's Friday FFS!BWFC_Insane wrote:I'd suggest what he means is that he only had a job for 6 months as it stood.thebish wrote:indeed - how could you POSSIBLY provide for your kids on a mere £125,000 a year?
