A oiece of pre-prepared drama as he & the Tulusa bint had a fake arguement. Not sure the fag-breath remark was rehearsed tho as she did seem surprised & her come-back was slow & not much cop.

It's exactly what it says - another year. Brilliantly acted, no big reveal, no anything. Just a great tale of a year in the life of a family and the challenges of age and of interpersonal relationships. I fecking loved it mate, for as much as for anything, listening to Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen have those conversations that you knew your parents had about you, but preferred to believe that they didn't.

Another Year the Mike Leigh film, With Jim Broadbent? Yeah really enjoyed it. Typical Leigh, no real plot more an observation. Really brilliantly acted tho, especially the lady who plays the tragic Mary. Good film.

At the Cornerhouse this eve to watch On the Road. There's loads of booze, drugs and sex and, of course, the Road stretching onwards - New York, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, Mexico City as the major work of fiction of the Beat Generation unfolds.

When in my late teens I must have read this half a dozen times and i think I might do so again. The film held me, but i brought my history with me to the cinema. It has a major problem - that the magnetic Dean Moriarty, crazed con-man, sex maniac, jailbird, drug taker and totally attractive (to male and female) object of desire - the epitome of 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' is utterly believable in the book. Film is too literal a medium, though, and neither script nor production has found a way of overcoming this. So the central character comes across as irredeemable to the point that you wonder how anybody could like him, never mind him being the focus of adoring attention from three men and two women, both of whom not only want, but have, his babies...

Still, it's almost always a disappointment when you watch the movie version of a book you really like. This less than some others. If you like he book, you'll probably enjoy this movie. If you didn't, i've no idea. A couple left before the end but most of others seemed very into it.

Only one more day to go though.
