I'm seeing a link here..H. Pedersen wrote:Gartside is just one of those 1%ers who draws a huge salary no matter how badly he fails. It seems incredibly obvious that our success was entirely down to Big Sam. Gartside deserves credit for hiring him, and nothing else.
The only people who criticise Gartside are 11yo's or know-nowt foreigners who are pissed off at not being able to watch a stream.

Is that you Rioch?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Yeah, but what's the point? it'll only go on paying the likes of Zat Knight more money than we already do. There is more to football than playing in the 'biggest bestest hyped league in the world', otherwise the other 72 league clubs wouldn't bother would they? We were mostly happy supporting Wanderers before Sky came along and we will long after Sky piss off. The best years of being a Wanderer in my lifetime? Not the Premiership that is for sure. The Rioch years were by far the best. Not everyone will agree, but I doubt I'm on my own with that either...Holden midfielder wrote:If we do not go up this year it will be all doom and gloom. Totally agree. I loved the Rioch era team. Not that I'm saying I haven't enjoyed the players that BSA brought in

I loved I when Allardyce convinced Eddie Davies to part with his millions...

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It was sarcasm you idiot. Do you actually think Allardyce went to Davies? Or was that you crediting the chairman for a great bit of business???H. Pedersen wrote:And what a terrific investment that turned out to be. Doubled his money.

Yeah but if Gartside had only told Coyle that he would be sacked if we went down, then Coyle would have realised he needed to try, and well we'd have stayed up, cos thats how it works.....boltonboris wrote:It was sarcasm you idiot. Thing is that its all about context. Rioch was the start or the catalyst to our rise back to the premiership. Ok we didn't stay there, but thats where he took us (and really converted us into a club at the very least thinking about premiership football).Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I've turned in a grumpy old fart, but not that oldTKIZ! wrote:Is that you Rioch?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Yeah, but what's the point? it'll only go on paying the likes of Zat Knight more money than we already do. It was a fantastic time, but mainly against the backdrop of what had gone before and the exhilarating rise back after several years in the bottom two divisions.
I don't think you can recreate that, and nor should we want to try and fall so badly to be able to.

Not suggesting that we should fall so badly. My point is that money ergo Premiership is not the be all and end all. It doesn't mean good football/attractive football (whatever that means) and good times by default. Personally I'd rather watch us bounce around the upper half of the Championship if we were compelling to watch and had a genuine chance of promotion - as opposed to the grim clinging on for dear life might as well poke myself in the eyes stuff of recent seasons. Not saying one or the other is what will happen, just my slightly odd way of saying Premiership money does not equal better because of the millions the OP is so distraught at. As much as anyone, I would prefer us to be competing with the best, but I fear that is beyond us for quite some time.BWFC_Insane wrote:

Lots of Yorkshire folk don't count the East Riding as 'proper'. Unless it suits 'em.Prufrock wrote:Like an Owl, fighting a Tiger! Which is a Yorkshire derby.
Anyway, thanks for the John Oliver link, a pleasure to watch - The Bugle is the best podcast out there... (with apologies to The Men In White)

Plus it's further away from my neck of the woods than Bolton and the majority of Lancashire is anyway!
