Just had a full home-cooked roast dinner. Wife informed me the beef was "Salmon Cut", sort of halfway between top-side and silver-side? It was from Morrisons at bargain price. Showing my culinary ignorance here, but I'd never heard the term before. Must say it was dam good though with carrots, roasties, gravy and Yorkshire puds. Oh, and with a dab of Colman's on the side. Sweet was a Black Forest cup-cake with a cherry on top. Grand:D

Had a glass of Spanish Cram sherry as a pair-o-teef .

I made a roast chicken dinner, with roast veg, asparagus and brussels sprouts.

She made the gravy - I've never managed this successfully...

We drank some Chilean Pinot Noir which was really nice.

Too full for the cheese, but will, I suspect, get round to it later - she was visiting daughter in Lancaster yesterday while I was at football, and took the opportunity of a trip to Booths and bought a whole range of cheese in small two-person amounts...

Having small gathering next week, was thinking of knocking up some sort of wintery punch? I have no idea what's gonna go in it yet which is the point of this post, often make summery fruit punches, usually just a phuckload of rosé wine and vodka with some cranberry juice or summat, but after summat more considered for this, still fairly potent mind!?

I'm going to confess here to never having understood Sunday roasts. Bland meat with bland potatoes and bland veg. Washed down with sometimes bland, sometimes admittedly awesome gravy. I hate going to a pub or someone's family and having it stuck in front of you liked it's the dog's. Yorkshire's are good though. In fact I think I don't mind chicken, lamb, or gammon, it's just beef. Tasteless meh.

Anyway, Friday night, oot in Manchesto.

White Lion at Deansgate for salt and pepper ribs and salt and pepper chips. I know I'm banging the drum again, but go! Less than £6 for a portion of ribs and half a portion of chips each, and these are proper meaty ribs. All washed down with a pint or four of Golden Pippin (or TTL, or others, if it takes your fancy). Chinese food AND beer. Then the ever-awesome Pevril of the Peak (again Golden Pippin) plus table football an a good jukebox, the wonderful Circus Tavern (wanted Tetley's cask but ended up with some generic keg bitter) and then a rushed 'un in Tom's chophouse. Back home for a nightcap in the local. Glorious.

You are invited to mine where you will taste excellent versions of roast meats, vegetables worth the energy, mash of beauty and roasties you would kill for. All supported by a gravy which I could market.

Not tasteless if cooked well. And if a quality cut of beef cooked well, then its sublime.

Roast Lamb is my fave, but beef a close second.
