Why? What would be the point of taking away time from a new manager? In any event, if you can get the man you want, then surely the sooner the better?BL3 wrote:Then what was the point of making the change? We should have given Jimmy Phillips the job until the end of the season and given the new manager the whole summer to get to grips with the job.
Re: The Tykes Thread
Exactly. So Freedman's not here as some sort of long-term option, as some on here seem to think. He shouldn't be judged on whether he's making 'slow but steady progress', when we need rapid and constant progress.89bwfc89 wrote:Because as you have repeatedly told us, promotion is a must this season. Phil must believe that Dougie is more capable of winning promotion than Jimmy was, so he made a change.

Re: The Tykes Thread
If they players/the team are/were good enough to go up
then Coyle would have had a better chance of doing so than DF - why?
because they were HIS players.
if they aren.t/were'nt good enough then that is the key criteria for sacking Coyle and getting someone new in- the fact that he had proved "shit" in the transfer market.
personally - i think they are good enough and Coyle should have been given longer to turn their heads around. it takes longer than 10 games to shake a losing mentality off.
i now think we definately WON'T go up - DF will dismantle this team and be "given time" to create his own (both on here and by the Board) which is fair enough i s'pose.
i will now duck down in my bunker and await the ridicule

Can't tell if trolling or serious...

Re: The Tykes Thread
I agree with some of that but i'm not sure that Freedman has been given a mandate to dismantle this team and create his own. We don't have the time or the money to do that. I think he's going to have to work with what he's got.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:If they players/the team are/were good enough to go up

Which leads me back to my earlier question, which (as usual when you can't) you didn't answer.BL3 wrote:Exactly. Who is this wonder-manager we have missed out on that would have provided rapid and constant progress?
I'd rather have slow and steady up the league than a rapid and constant downwards spiral.

he's simply alleging that the TARGET for dougie was to get us promotion THIS season
and then judging the success of the last 4 games based on that.
that's all. (unless I missed something)
of course - none of us really knows what has been said behind closed doors to Dougie about what the actual targets by which he will be judged this season are...)
Re: The Tykes Thread
I think he's jumping on Dougie's back without giving him a fair crack (craic) of the whip.

I don't get all this "they're not his players, let him bring in his own"..
A decent manager should find a formula to fit the players in a new job, not the other way around.

But we do know that Gartside wanted Coyle to stay and Eddie Davies pulled the plug. I doubt he did that so we could hang around in the Championship.thebish wrote:of course - none of us really knows what has been said behind closed doors to Dougie about what the actual targets by which he will be judged this season are...)
"It is the right time for a change. We set a target at the beginning of the season and want to get back on track." Phil Gartside
Unless that target was mid-table mediocrity, Douggie needs to get his arse in gear.

You have absolutely no idea. Just like you didn't about the wage bill.BL3 wrote:But we do know that Gartside wanted Coyle to stay and Eddie Davies pulled the plug. You have no idea whether it was down to results, stuff behind the scenes, the grand plan, a mixture of all three......
That quote was a generic quote used when a manager is sacked. He's also said that there is no pressure for promotion, just improvement. So which do we believe?
Question remains though, why the "good enough" squad were 18th under a manager you said was "not at fault" for the position in the league we were in?
Re: The Tykes Thread
You are basing your argument on the "fact" that Phil has set a rigid, non-changeable target, yes?
Can I just ask, if Coyle was still here now and we were 22nd in the table with no hope of getting promotion this season, would you still be saying why bother changing as the new manager won't be able to hit the target that Phil has set of promotion?

Re: The Tykes Thread
No. I'm basing it on everything Gartside has said on the subject this season:89bwfc89 wrote:You are basing your argument on the "fact" that Phil has set a rigid, non-changeable target, yes?
“There is no time for adjustment. This is real time and to get automatic promotion you have to target two points from every game. That is what we are setting out to do. There’s 100 per cent pressure on us but it’s not outside pressure, it’s internal."
Where do you think that 'internal pressure' is coming from? Eddie Davies perhaps?

Re: The Tykes Thread
In which case, why did you defend Coyle when with more games, he was further from the 2PPG target than DF is now? Thats the question you've got to answer.BL3 wrote:No. I'm basing it on everything Gartside has said on the subject this season:89bwfc89 wrote:You are basing your argument on the "fact" that Phil has set a rigid, non-changeable target, yes?

Re: The Tykes Thread
Yeah Eddie Davies probably will be applying pressure. That quote, did he say that when Coyle was in charge or Dougie?
As the Bish has had to say twice on the same page, because you ignore what you don't like, no one knows what has been said behind closed doors. The target may have changed now that your mate has dragged us to the depths of the Championship.
